Platform engineer resume template
Short answer
Catalyst fits a senior platform engineer. It opens on the current job without a summary, so the platform you run, who adopted it and what it replaced are the first things read. The fictional sample leads an internal developer platform for 180 engineers at a payroll fintech in San Francisco: a Backstage portal, golden-path templates, self-service Postgres through Crossplane and a steady cluster upgrade cadence.

Why Catalyst suits a platform engineer resume
Catalyst prints no summary and starts with work experience, which suits a senior engineer whose current platform, and its adoption, is the whole argument. Skills follow as labelled rows, and the teal capitals sitting on full-width rules make a long page of technical bullets easy to scan in IBM Plex Sans.
Second choice: FAANGPath. FAANGPath adds a summary and lists the tool rows before the jobs; better if you are moving into platform work from DevOps or backend development and want the Kubernetes stack read first.
What goes in each section, in Catalyst's order
Catalyst prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Work Experience. The headline under your name stands in for a summary, so name the platform and its scale there. Platform bullets have a customer, other engineers: write adoption (teams or services on it), time saved per request, and what the platform replaced, such as tickets, wiki pages or copied YAML.
- Skills. Two rows carry the weight: what you design (multi-tenant clusters, platform APIs, GitOps) and the named tools. Backstage, Argo CD and Crossplane are searched by name, so spell them the way the projects do.
- Education. A single line under skills. Senior platform roles are hired on the systems you have run, so nothing beyond degree, school and year is needed.
- Certifications. The CKA is a two-hour, hands-on exam at a Kubernetes command line and is valid for two years; give the year and renew it or drop it. Catalyst prints it last, where it backs up the cluster bullets rather than leading.

Experience
Senior Platform Engineer, Ledgerwise, San Francisco, CA (01/2022 to Present)
- Lead the internal developer platform used by 180 engineers: a Backstage portal, service templates and Argo CD, so a new service can reach production on its first day.
- Built golden-path templates for Go and Kotlin services with logging, tracing, alerts and a pipeline included; most new services in 2025 started from one.
- Run 14 Amazon EKS clusters on a two-month upgrade cadence using blue-green node pools, with no customer-facing incidents caused by upgrades.
- Replaced ticket-based database requests with a Crossplane self-service API; developers get a Postgres instance in minutes instead of three days.
- Turned the top complaint in the quarterly developer survey, slow preview environments, into a roadmap item that cut spin-up from 25 to 6 minutes.
Infrastructure Engineer, Cobaltline Media, Oakland, CA (03/2017 to 12/2021)
- Moved 40 services from hand-managed virtual machines to Kubernetes with Helm charts and a shared ingress.
- Wrote the Terraform module library the company still uses for networks and databases.
- Set up Prometheus and Grafana with service dashboards each team could copy and adapt.

- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), The Linux Foundation (2025)

Kubernetes, Go, Platform API design, GitOps, Multi-tenant cluster design, Developer portals, Amazon EKS, Backstage, Argo CD, Crossplane, Helm, Terraform, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Developer surveys and interviews, Platform roadmaps, Technical writing
How to make the sample yours
Count your users and how they adopted
The sample has 180 engineers on the platform and most new services starting from a template. Use your own adoption numbers: teams onboarded, share of services on the paved road, requests that now need no ticket.
Name what the platform replaced
Three-day database tickets became a self-service request that finishes in minutes. Before-and-after comparisons like that are how platform work is judged.
Quote the feedback you collected
Developer surveys and interviews show you run the platform like a product. Keep a bullet where a complaint became a roadmap item and a measured fix.
Keep the unglamorous operations
Cluster upgrades on a schedule, cost per cluster, capacity. A platform that nobody trusts to stay up does not get adopted, and hiring managers know it.
Describe golden paths in plain words
Not every reader knows the term. "Service templates with logging, alerts and a pipeline included" says what a golden path is and what it gives a developer on day one.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid
- Writing a summary for Catalyst. It never prints, so the headline has to carry your level and platform.
- Describing the platform only by its components. Readers want to know who uses it and what got faster.
- Claiming the whole platform when you built one layer. Say which part was yours.
- Leaving out the product side: roadmaps, surveys and documentation are what separate platform engineering from cluster administration.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 4 of 4 | 8 of 8 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 4 of 4 | 8 of 8 |

Frequently asked questions
How is a platform engineer resume different from a DevOps one?
It treats other engineers as customers. The CNCF platforms white paper lists "platform as a product" and self-service among a platform's core attributes, so show adoption, feedback and requests you made self-service, not only pipelines you built.
How do I measure the impact of an internal platform?
Adoption (teams or services on it), time to first deploy for a new service, tickets removed, and survey results before and after a change. Pick two or three you can back up.
Should I mention Backstage if we customised it heavily?
Yes. Name it and say what you built on top: plugins, a software catalog import, scaffolder templates. Customising it is the hard part and worth a bullet.
Is the CKA worth listing for a senior platform engineer?
It does no harm if it is current, and some postings ask for it. At senior level it sits behind the clusters you have upgraded and the platform you lead, which Catalyst puts first anyway.
Where does on-call work go on a platform resume?
In the experience bullets, tied to what it changed: an alert you removed, an upgrade process you made safe, an incident review you led. A bare "participated in on-call" adds little.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Catalyst PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
