SEO specialist resume template

Short answer

FAANGPath suits an SEO specialist, especially one with a technical lean: it prints labelled skill rows above the jobs, so Search Console, crawlers, Core Web Vitals and structured data are read before the job titles. The fictional sample handles SEO for an online home supply retailer after agency work, with bullets on crawl waste, page speed, new category pages and redirect mapping for migrations.

Why FAANGPath suits an SEO specialist resume

FAANGPath is built for candidates whose tools and methods should be read before their jobs. SEO postings, technical ones above all, list specific skills (crawling, indexing, Core Web Vitals, schema markup, log files), and its labelled rows answer that list at the top of a plain black and grey page.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian shares the summary, skills, experience order with no colour; pick it for content-led SEO roles where the tool list matters a little less.

FAANGPath template details and test results

What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order

FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Site type and scale (e-commerce, publisher, SaaS, local; thousands or millions of URLs) and your lean: technical, content, local or a mix. Hiring managers sort SEO candidates by these two facts first.
  2. Skills. Technical: audits, indexing control, page experience, structured data, migrations, keyword research. Tools: Search Console, analytics, a crawler, backlink and rank tools, plus any SQL or Python you use on log files or exports. List only tools you have used on a live site.
  3. Work Experience. Each bullet should link a problem, a fix and a measurable effect: crawl waste removed, LCP at the 75th percentile, pages indexed, share of organic revenue. Say who implemented the fix; most SEO work ships through developers, and saying so is a strength.
  4. Education. One line. Marketing, communications and computer science are all common; SEO hiring runs on results, so the degree rarely needs detail.

How to make the sample yours

Use Google's current metrics

Core Web Vitals are now LCP, INP and CLS; INP replaced First Input Delay in March 2024. A resume still quoting FID looks dated to a technical reviewer.

Show revenue or leads, not just traffic

Organic sessions are a start. Tie at least one bullet to revenue, leads or sign-ups from organic search, as the sample does with its category pages.

Name the migration if you have run one

Domain changes, platform moves and URL restructures are high-risk projects SEO teams hire for. Give the URL count and how traffic held up afterwards.

Adapt for content or local SEO

Content-led roles want briefs, topic clusters and refreshes; local SEO wants business profiles, reviews and location pages. Keep the problem, fix, result pattern and change the work.

Keep algorithm update talk short

One line on recovering from a core update is enough. Long explanations of updates read as speculation; your fixes and results are what count.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • search engine optimization
  • technical SEO
  • Google Search Console
  • GA4
  • keyword research
  • crawl budget
  • indexing
  • Core Web Vitals
  • structured data
  • site migrations
  • redirect mapping
  • Screaming Frog
  • Ahrefs
  • internal linking
  • Looker Studio

Mistakes to avoid

  • Claiming ranking gains without saying which pages, which terms or what you changed.
  • Promising to get any site to position one. Nobody controls rankings, and reviewers distrust anyone who says otherwise.
  • A tool list with no sign of working with developers, who implement most technical fixes.
  • Quoting retired metrics such as First Input Delay, or a tool's "SEO score", as if they were results.

Frequently asked questions

What should a technical SEO specialist resume show that a general one does not?

Crawling and indexing control, rendering, page speed, structured data, log file analysis and migrations, each with a measurable result. Technical roles also look for SQL, Python or JavaScript at whatever level you use them.

How do I show SEO results if traffic fell overall?

Isolate what you controlled: pages you fixed, sections you built, a migration you protected. Traffic can fall for reasons outside SEO, such as seasonality or a smaller product range; explain that in the interview rather than on the page.

Which SEO tools should I list?

The ones you use regularly, by name. Search Console and an analytics platform are expected; a crawler and a backlink tool are common. Skip tools you trialled once.

How does agency SEO experience read differently from in-house?

Agency work shows breadth: number of clients, sectors and audits. In-house work shows depth: one site, long projects, revenue. If you have both, let each job show its own strength.

Do I need coding skills for SEO jobs?

Not for most content and local roles. For technical SEO, reading HTML, understanding JavaScript rendering and writing basic SQL or Python for log files and exports help a lot. Describe your real level.

Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
