Travel agent and travel consultant resume template
Short answer
Meridian works for a travel agent or travel consultant because it prints skills above work experience, so the booking system (Sabre, Amadeus) and trip types are read first. It uses no colour and a plain centred header. The fictional sample is a Minneapolis leisure advisor who sells river cruises and Ireland tours after three years in corporate travel, with booked sales, repeat clients and one rebooking story when a flight was cancelled.

Why Meridian suits a travel agent resume
Meridian prints skills before experience in labelled rows, so the GDS, the agency CRM and fare skills sit where a travel manager looks first. Corporate travel postings in particular name the booking system, and the plain black-and-grey page keeps attention on sales figures rather than decoration.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie prints experience before skills under a blue header; choose it if your client book and sales history matter more than the systems you use.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Leisure or corporate, the trips you know best and the size of your client base. "River cruises and family tours of Ireland, about 140 repeat households" places you faster than "passionate about travel".
- Skills. Put the GDS (Sabre, Amadeus or Travelport) and your CRM on the Tools row. If you issue or reissue air tickets, say so in the first row; it separates you from advisors who book only through supplier websites.
- Work Experience. Give one number per job that shows the business you handle (trips a year, annual booked sales, reservations a day), then one bullet where a trip went wrong and you fixed it. Corporate jobs should name the travel policy work.
- Education. A travel and tourism diploma helps early on; after a few years it is one line. Fam trips and specialist courses go in the extra list, not here.
- Certifications. The Travel Institute's CTA requires a year of selling travel (or a TAP exam score of 80% or more) to start, plus a proctored exam to finish, so it tells an agency you are past the trainee stage. List it with the year.
- Destination experience. "Destination experience" holds fam trips, group escort work and destination courses. Keep only places your target clients book.

Marcus Lindqvist

Minneapolis, MN | marcus.lindqvist@example.com | (612) 555-0158 | linkedin.com/in/sample-marcus-lindqvist
Travel advisor with eight years booking leisure and corporate travel, now focused on European river cruises, family tours of Ireland and honeymoons. Books air in Sabre, keeps a repeat client base of about 140 households and handles the changes when plans fall apart mid-trip.
Experience
Travel Advisor, Northstar Journeys, Minneapolis, MN (02/2021 to Present)
- Plan and book about 260 leisure trips a year, mostly river cruises, Ireland and Italy tours, and Caribbean all-inclusive stays.
- Grew annual booked sales from about $1.1M to $1.6M over three years, roughly two thirds of it from repeat clients and their referrals.
- Rebooked 38 travelers within a day after their transatlantic flight was cancelled, using airline waivers and supplier contacts so all of them made the cruise departure.
- Write day-by-day itineraries with transfer times, entry document requirements and travel insurance options for each client.

- Flagged out-of-policy requests to travel managers and offered in-policy alternatives.
Destination experience
- Familiarization trip on a Danube river cruise, Budapest to Passau, 2024.
- Escorted a 22-person client group on a ten-day tour of Ireland, 2023.
- Completed supplier training on Alaska cruise and land packages, 2022.

How to make the sample yours
Name the booking system you used
Replace Sabre with your GDS or booking engine. If you have booked only through supplier portals, say that plainly; a travel management company will ask in the first call.
Use your own sales figure
Annual booked sales or commission earned, whichever your agency reported. Home-based advisors working with a host agency should say so and give their own numbers, not the host's.
Show your niche
The sample specialises in river cruises and Ireland. Swap in yours (theme parks, adventure trips, destination weddings, accessible travel) and keep the bullets that prove it.
Keep one disruption story
Cancelled flights, strikes and missed connections are when clients value an advisor most. Describe one you handled: how many travelers, how fast they were rebooked, what they kept.
Lead with leisure or corporate, not both
If you are moving from corporate travel into leisure (or back), write the summary for the side you want and cut the other job to its two most relevant bullets.
Keywords to keep where they are true

Mistakes to avoid
- Listing every country you have visited on holiday as if it were destination expertise.
- Leaving out sales figures; an agency is partly hiring the business you bring with you.
- Copying supplier brochure language ("bespoke luxury journeys") instead of saying what you booked and for whom.
- Dropping the GDS from a corporate travel resume, where it is one of the first things checked.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
Should my resume say travel agent, travel advisor or travel consultant?
Use the title you actually held in each job, and mirror the posting in your headline. Leisure agencies often say advisor, corporate travel companies often say consultant, and recruiters search for all three.
How do I show sales if I was paid on commission?
Give annual booked sales, commission earned or trips booked, whichever you can stand behind in an interview. Add the share of repeat and referral clients if you know it; it shows the business follows you.
Is the CTA worth listing on a travel agent resume?
Yes, if you hold it. The Travel Institute asks for a year of selling travel or a TAP exam score of 80% or more to enrol, and a proctored exam to finish. If you are new, list a travel and tourism course or GDS training instead.
How do I write a travel agent resume with no agency experience?
Lead with customer-facing jobs (hotel front desk, airline reservations, retail sales) and any group trips you organised for friends, a club or a school. A short travel course and some GDS practice make the move believable.
Should a travel consultant list languages?
Yes, with an honest level. A second language helps with clients and with suppliers abroad; write "conversational" if you cannot handle a booking problem in it.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
