Teaching assistant resume template
Short answer
Henrietta fits a teaching assistant or paraprofessional. It is a plain, conventional layout that prints education straight after your jobs, which helps when a posting asks for college credits or a ParaPro result. The fictional sample is an instructional aide in a second-grade inclusion classroom who runs small reading groups, tracks behavior data for two students and translates for Spanish-speaking families, after two years leading an after-school program.

Why Henrietta suits a teaching assistant resume
Henrietta prints education directly after work experience, so an associate degree or a credit count sits high on the page instead of under a skills list. Its three-column skills grid fits the many short classroom skills an aide lists, and the black-and-grey page photocopies cleanly for a district hiring packet.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints skills above experience; choose it if you are coming from outside schools and your classroom skills say more than your past job titles.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Grade levels, the kind of classroom (general, inclusion, self-contained special education, preschool) and what you do there: small groups, one-to-one support, behavior plans. Add a second language if you use it with students or families.
- Work Experience. Write what you do with students inside the teacher's plan: "run three daily phonics groups from the teacher's lesson plans". Give group sizes, the kind of support and how you record progress for the teacher or case manager.
- Education. Associate degree, college credits or a degree in progress, with the number of credits if unfinished. Aide postings may ask about this directly, so be exact rather than writing "some college".
- Skills. Henrietta shows a grid without group labels, so the first group should be classroom skills (guided reading, behavior data, de-escalation). Reading programs, classroom apps and communication devices come next.
- Certifications. Your state's paraprofessional assessment, CPR and first aid, and crisis prevention training if the district gave it. ETS's ParaPro Assessment covers reading, writing and math and how you apply them in classroom instruction; ETS says many states require it for certification.
- Volunteer work. Volunteer work with children (library reading programs, youth sports, camps) shows you choose this work outside paid hours. Two lines are enough.

How to make the sample yours
Name the classroom you support
Change "grade 2 inclusion" to your own setting. A self-contained special education room, a preschool and a general classroom ask for different skills, and the hiring teacher looks for a match.
Use honest verbs for instruction
Aides deliver lessons the teacher designs. "Reinforced the teacher's fractions lesson with a group of four" is accurate and still shows skill; "taught the fractions unit" overstates it.
Add your credit count or test result
If you have 48 credits toward an associate degree, write that under education. If you passed the ParaPro or your state's test, add it with the year.
Describe behavior support without labels
Write "supported two students with behavior intervention plans" and what you did (data, visual schedules, breaks). Leave diagnoses and IEP details out.
University TA? Use a different shape
If your teaching assistant work means leading sections for a college course, list each course, its enrollment and your duties, and use the teaching CV layout instead of this sample.

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
Is a teaching assistant the same as a paraprofessional?
In US public schools the titles overlap: teaching assistant, teacher aide, instructional aide, paraeducator and paraprofessional often describe the same job. Use your real title in each job entry and the posting's title in your headline.
Do I need the ParaPro to work as a teaching assistant?
It depends on your state and the role. ETS describes the ParaPro as a test of reading, writing and math and their use in classroom instruction, required for certification in many states. Check your state's rule; if you passed it, list it with the year.
How do I get a teaching assistant job with no school experience?
Show work with children elsewhere (after-school programs, camps, coaching, childcare, library or faith-group programs) and any college credits. A current CPR and first aid card is worth listing too.
Is a graduate teaching assistant resume different?
Yes. A university TA leads discussion sections, grades work and holds office hours, and usually applies with an academic CV that lists each course, its enrollment and your duties. The teaching CV template fits that better than this sample.
How long should a teaching assistant resume be?
One page. Two jobs with three or four bullets, an education line and a short certifications list fit easily.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
