Consulting resume template
Short answer
Henrietta is the conventional business layout consulting recruiters expect, and it prints education right after experience, where they check degree and school. The fictional sample is a senior consultant at a mid-size management consultancy, with an MBA, a promotion, pricing and cost workstreams with measured client results, and three earlier years as an operations engineer. Strategy, operations and boutique firm roles fit the same page.

Why Henrietta suits a consulting resume
Henrietta is the layout built for business and consulting roles: left-aligned name, black and grey, and education printed straight after experience. Consulting recruiters usually weigh degree and school alongside client impact, so placing education directly under the jobs, rather than at the bottom, matches the way firms read.
Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst drops the summary and opens on the latest engagement, good for senior managers whose client results make the case alone.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Two lines at most: years in consulting, practice areas, industries and your level, such as leading a workstream or a client team. Many consulting resumes skip it, but keep it if you are coming from industry, where it explains the move.
- Work Experience. Each bullet should run action, analysis, client result in numbers. Show promotions as separate titles under the same firm, and name client industries rather than clients. Earlier industry jobs stay, shorter, because they explain the expertise you sell.
- Education. Henrietta prints this straight after experience. Degree, school and year; GPA and test scores only if strong and recent; one line of scholarships or leadership.
- Skills. The grid has no group labels, so open with analysis methods (financial modelling, pricing analysis, market sizing, process mapping), then tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Alteryx, Tableau), then languages, which matter for firms with international clients.
- Leadership and interests. A short leadership and interests list gives interviewers something human to ask about. Make it specific: a volunteer consulting program, a language, a sport with a result.

How to make the sample yours
Put a number on every engagement
Margin points, cost saved, days of working capital, revenue from a new segment: pick the measure the client used and write the result. If the result came after you rolled off, describe the recommendation and what was adopted.
Anonymise clients carefully
Client names are usually confidential. Describe them by industry and size ("a regional building products distributor") so a reader still sees the relevance.
From industry into consulting
Engineers, analysts and managers already solve problems with data and persuade people. Rewrite bullets as problem, analysis, recommendation and result, and keep your industry expertise visible, because firms sell it.
Keep it to one page below manager level
Analyst and consultant applications are usually expected on one page. Cut older industry bullets and coursework before shrinking the type.
Independent consultants: show the practice
Name the kinds of clients and engagements, repeat clients and results. The Certified Management Consultant (CMC) from IMC USA asks for client references and anonymised summaries of past assignments, so it suits people who already work independently.

Frequently asked questions
Should a consulting resume be one page?
Yes for analysts, consultants and most MBA applicants. Senior managers and partners with long client records may use two, but the first page must still carry the case.
How do I show impact if the client never shared final results?
Write the recommendation, the value your analysis estimated and what the client adopted: "recommended closing two routes worth $4 million a year in cost; both closed". Label estimates honestly.
How do I move from industry into consulting?
Show structured problem solving with numbers, influence on decisions above your level and the industry depth you would bring to clients. An MBA is a common route but not the only one; experienced hires often join practices that match their industry.
Should I list GPA and test scores?
Early in your career, if they are strong. After a few years of consulting, client results carry more weight and the scores can go.
What goes in a leadership and interests line?
Specific things you could talk about for two minutes: a nonprofit board, a volunteer consulting project, a language, a sport with a result. Generic interests such as travel or reading add little.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
