Media and entertainment resume template

Short answer

Olivia suits many media and entertainment resumes: its blue header band stands out on screen, and its closing custom list can hold credits, which this industry reads like a portfolio. The fictional sample is a production coordinator for scripted television in Atlanta who started as a touring production assistant, with crew paperwork, travel, call sheets and the spend records behind Georgia's film tax credit written as evidence.

Why Olivia suits a media resume

Olivia has the boldest look of the seven, a full-width blue header band with the name in white, which fits an industry that sells attention, and it stands out at first glance on screen. Underneath it is a plain single column with labelled skill rows above the jobs and room for a credits list at the end.

Second choice: Leslie. Leslie keeps one touch of blue without a solid band and puts experience before skills, a quieter choice for news, corporate media and music business roles.

Olivia template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Olivia's order

Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Say what you make or move (scripted series, unscripted, live events, music releases, podcasts) and your department: production, post, marketing, distribution, A&R. Studios and labels hire by department and format, so "passionate storyteller" gives them nothing to sort on.
  2. Skills. Departments run on specific software: scheduling and budgeting tools for production, Avid or Premiere for editorial, rights and royalty systems for music, social analytics for marketing. Put the work in Technical, the named products in Tools, and keep Soft Skills to things a crew would vouch for.
  3. Work Experience. Lead with format, scale and outcome: episodes delivered, crew size, budget handled, shows advanced, streams, deliverables met by air date. Freelance and project work is normal in media, so group short contracts under one employer or a "Freelance" heading with dates rather than listing twelve two-week jobs.
  4. Education. Film, media, music business and communications degrees are common, but plenty of people enter as assistants with an unrelated degree. One line.
  5. Selected credits. The credits list is the part media hiring managers look up. Give title, format, your role and year; unreleased work under a non-disclosure agreement can be described by format alone. Olivia prints this list last, so your strongest credit should also appear in the summary.

Production coordinator for scripted television in Georgia, running the production office on two seasons of a streaming drama: crew start paperwork, travel, call sheets and the vendor records behind the state tax credit. How to make the sample yours

Write credits the way the industry reads them

Title, format (series, feature, commercial, tour, album), your role and the year. Keep the list to credits relevant to the job; a post-production supervisor does not need every production assistant day from college.

Show you can work under tax credit rules

Georgia offers a 20% transferable film tax credit, plus 10% for projects with an embedded Georgia logo or approved alternative marketing, on a $500,000 annual minimum spend; since 1 January 2023 every project must go through a mandatory audit. Coordinators, accountants and location staff who kept the vendor and spend records behind a credit like this should say so.

Translate events, hospitality or touring

Advancing shows, booking travel, running a green room and handling settlements map neatly onto production office work. Lead your older job with logistics, budgets and the number of people you looked after, as the sample does with tour advancing.

Fit the credits to the department

Editors and post staff list titles with the deliverable they owned (online, conform, final mix). Music staff list releases, artists and their part (marketing, sync, touring). Marketing and publicity staff list campaigns with a release date and a result such as trailer views or opening weekend tickets.

Mention union status where it applies

If you belong to a guild or union local, or are eligible to join one, add it to the headline or summary; productions that staff under union agreements ask early.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • production coordinator
  • production office
  • call sheets
  • crew start paperwork
  • scheduling
  • budget tracking
  • post-production
  • deliverables
  • clearances
  • streaming
  • tax credit
  • Movie Magic
  • live events
  • credits

Mistakes to avoid

  • Calling yourself a producer when you were a coordinator or assistant. Credits are checkable and crews talk to each other.
  • A paragraph about loving film or music with no format, title or crew size behind it.
  • Naming projects still under a non-disclosure agreement. Describe them by format and platform until they are announced.
  • Treating a reel or headshot as evidence for an office or crew job; keep the reel link for editors, camera operators and on-screen applicants.

Frequently asked questions

How do I list freelance and short contract work in media?

Group it: one entry headed "Freelance production coordinator" with a date range, then the strongest projects as bullets or in the credits list. Media employers expect project-based careers; scattered two-week entries just make the page harder to read.

Should a media resume include a credits list as well as work experience?

Yes, for production, post and music roles. Experience shows what you did; credits show what you worked on. Keep both short and do not describe the same project in full twice.

Can I get into entertainment from events or hospitality?

Often, as an office production assistant or coordinator. Advancing events, booking travel, tracking budgets and looking after crews are the same skills. Show logistics numbers and say in your summary which department you want.

Do I need to mention a film tax credit on my resume?

Only if you did the work: logged vendors, tracked in-state spend or kept records for the audit. In a state with a large incentive, such as Georgia, that paperwork is a practical skill worth one bullet.

How long should a media resume be?

One page plus a short credits list for most crew and office roles. Executives and senior post staff can run to two pages if the credits are relevant.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
