Sports industry resume template
Short answer
Henrietta fits most sports business resumes: teams, leagues, college athletics and agencies expect a conventional page, and Henrietta prints education straight after experience, where a sport management degree or athletics internship belongs. The fictional sample sells and activates sponsorships for a minor league baseball club after five years in hotel group sales, with renewal rates, partner recaps and game-day work measured.

Why Henrietta suits a sports resume
Henrietta is the conventional business layout of the seven, with a left-aligned name, black and grey rules and education right after experience. Front offices are sales and operations businesses, and that order lets a sport management degree or a game-day internship sit next to the jobs instead of at the foot of the page.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie also puts experience first but adds a centred blue header, a little colour for clubs and agencies with a lively brand.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Name the side of sport you work in (ticketing, partnerships, operations, athlete services, communications, compliance) and the level: professional club, minor league, college, governing body, youth or community sport. A sports employer reads for business evidence, so say which revenue or which events you answer for.
- Work Experience. Write in the units a front office reports: ticket and sponsorship revenue, renewal rate, attendance, per-capita spend, events run, partners managed. Game-day operations count as experience too, so give dates worked, crowd sizes and what you were in charge of.
- Education. Henrietta prints this right after the jobs. Sport management, business and communications degrees are common; add an internship with a team or athletics department in the detail line, because many clubs hire from their own interns.
- Skills. The grid has no labels, so put revenue skills (sponsorship sales, inventory valuation, hospitality packages) in the first column, the CRM and ticketing systems in the second, and how you work on event days in the third.
- Volunteer work. Volunteer work at races, tournaments or adaptive sport events is real evidence in this field. Keep each line to the event, your role and its size.

How to make the sample yours
Drop the fan voice
Hiring managers in sport assume you like sport. Replace "lifelong fan" with the business you would run for them: tickets sold, partners renewed, events delivered, budgets met.
Turn other sales into sponsorship terms
Hotel, media and software sales map onto partnerships: pipeline becomes prospects, contracts become partner agreements, account management becomes activation and renewal. The sample keeps its hotel job and leads it with sports team travel.
Name safeguarding work in youth and Olympic sport
The U.S. Center for SafeSport was authorised by a 2017 federal act to resolve abuse and misconduct reports in the Olympic and Paralympic movement, and it oversees how national governing bodies follow its Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies. If you coached, ran camps or worked for a governing body or member club under those rules, mention the training or policy work you did.
Show the game-day side
Even sales staff work events. One bullet on activations run, home dates staffed or a problem solved before the gates opened shows you can handle a live crowd.
Change the role, keep the layout
Ticket sales staff lead with new and renewed season tickets and calls per week; operations staff with events run, vendors and crowd size; communications staff with content output and audience growth; athletics compliance staff with rules education and eligibility files.

Mistakes to avoid
- "Passionate about sports" as the opening line. Nearly every applicant writes it.
- A long account of your own playing career for a business role. One line in an extra list is enough unless the job values it (coaching, athlete relations).
- Revenue for the whole club presented as yours. Give your book, your renewals and your new sales.
- Leaving out unpaid event work when it is your main sports experience; volunteer and internship hours count here.

Frequently asked questions
How do I break into sports without industry experience?
Most entry roles are in ticket sales, partnerships, operations and communications, and they hire on sales and event skills. Show quota or revenue from another industry, volunteer at events in your city, and put the target role in your headline.
Is a sport management degree necessary?
No. It helps for internships and some college athletics roles, but clubs also hire business, communications and hospitality graduates and people from sales careers. Put whichever degree you have right after your jobs, as Henrietta does.
Should I list playing experience on a sports resume?
Briefly, unless the job is coaching, scouting or athlete relations. A line such as "College soccer, four years" in an extra list shows you understand team life without taking space from business results.
What sponsorship numbers should I include?
Accounts managed, revenue on your book, new partners signed, renewal rate by revenue, and one activation result such as attendance on a sponsored night. Round where the club keeps exact values private.
How long should a sports industry resume be?
One page for most front office roles below director. Senior commercial or operations leaders with several clubs or events behind them can use two.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
