Fitness and wellness resume template
Short answer
Meridian suits fitness and wellness resumes because its labelled skill rows sit above the jobs, and clubs, studios and wellness programs check training methods and booking software early. The fictional sample manages personal training and group fitness at two clubs in Phoenix after five years as a trainer, with revenue, 90-day retention and a quarterly check of every coach's certification and CPR/AED card.

Why Meridian suits a fitness resume
Meridian is the plain default: centred header, grey rules, no colour, and skills above work experience. In fitness the skills block answers the first screening questions (which methods you coach, which populations, which booking and coaching apps), and the page prints cleanly for a club manager who still reads on paper.
Second choice: Olivia. Olivia has the same section order under a bold blue header band, for boutique studios and fitness brands that care how the page looks on screen.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Lead with your credential and the setting: commercial club, boutique studio, corporate wellness, physical therapy clinic, online coaching. Then give one result a manager cares about, such as clients retained or revenue. Put the certification in the headline as well, because Meridian prints certifications near the bottom.
- Skills. Technical: what you coach and assess (strength programming, movement screens, small-group formats, older adults, pre and postnatal clients) plus business skills such as package sales and scheduling. Tools: booking, payment and coaching apps such as Mindbody, ABC or Trainerize. Soft Skills: how you keep members coming back.
- Work Experience. Fitness employers measure the business: sessions delivered a week, client retention, package renewals, class fill rate, personal training revenue, member retention after joining. For wellness program roles, use participation and completion rates instead. Keep claims inside scope: you coached and referred; you did not treat or diagnose.
- Education. Exercise science, kinesiology and nutrition degrees are useful but not required for most coaching jobs. One line, with any practicum or internship hours in the detail.
- Certifications. Clubs often ask for a certification from a program accredited by the NCCA, which accredits individual certification programs rather than whole organisations, plus a current CPR/AED card. ACE, for example, renews every two years with 2.0 continuing education credits and a current adult CPR/AED certificate, so list dates and keep them current.

Phoenix, AZ | aaliyah.brooks@example.com | (602) 555-0135 | linkedin.com/in/sample-aaliyah-brooks
Fitness manager for two health clubs with about 6,500 members, leading the personal training and group fitness teams. Five years as a trainer before management, mostly with clients over 50, and still coaches a weekly strength class for that group.
Experience
Fitness Manager, Saguaro Athletic Clubs, Phoenix, AZ (02/2022 to Present)
- Lead 18 personal trainers and 25 group instructors across two clubs; personal training revenue rose about 24% in two years, to roughly $1.1M a year.
- Rebuilt new member onboarding so every joiner is offered a movement screen and two coached sessions; 90-day membership retention rose from 71% to 79%.
- Check every coach's certification and CPR/AED card each quarter in a shared tracker; no one has coached on a lapsed credential since.
- Rewrote the group timetable from booking data, moving low-attendance classes and adding two early strength sessions that now fill most weeks.
- Set up a referral routine with a nearby physical therapy clinic for members finishing rehab, with written clearance before training starts.
Personal Trainer, then Senior Trainer, Desert Peak Fitness, Tempe, AZ (05/2017 to 01/2022)

How to make the sample yours
Name the populations you coach
Athletes, older adults, beginners, clients returning after injury with a clinician's clearance, corporate groups. Employers hire for the members they already have, so say who you get results with.
Show revenue without sounding like a salesperson
Write package renewals and client retention rather than "closed sales". The sample turns new member onboarding into retention, which is how club managers judge a fitness department.
Keep wellness claims inside your scope
Coaching, habit change and referral are your work; diagnosing, prescribing diets for medical conditions and treating injuries are not, unless you hold that licence. Phrase bullets the way a clinic partner would accept them.
Translate teaching, sport or military fitness
PE teachers, former athletes and military fitness leaders bring group instruction, programming and discipline. Lead those older roles with class sizes, programs you designed and how many people you trained.
Switch the role, keep the evidence
A group fitness instructor leads with classes taught a week and fill rate; a corporate wellness coordinator with participation, challenges run and vendor management; a studio owner with membership growth, staff and margins; a health coach with client goals reached and session counts.

Frequently asked questions
Which fitness certification should I list first?
The one the employer names, then your primary training certification. If you hold several, put the most relevant in your headline and the rest in the certifications section with dates.
How do I show results in fitness without client health data?
Use business and coaching numbers: clients kept for six months or more, sessions per week, package renewals, class fill rate, member retention after onboarding. Keep individual results anonymous and general.
Can I move into wellness or corporate fitness from personal training?
Yes. Add group program design, participation tracking and any work with employers or insurers, and describe outcomes as participation and completion rates. A health coaching credential helps for coaching-led roles.
Do I need a degree to work in fitness?
Usually not for coaching roles; a recognised certification and CPR/AED are the common requirements. Degrees in exercise science or kinesiology help for clinical, collegiate and management roles.
How long should a fitness resume be?
One page for trainers and instructors. Managers and directors running several sites can use two if each role adds a new responsibility.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
