Color accent resume template: one colour, used with care
Short answer
Catalyst is Resumity's colour accent template: teal headings over teal rules, small teal square bullets and a large left-aligned name, set in IBM Plex Sans. Leslie and Olivia use blue instead. The editor's Accent Color setting can switch headings and bullet markers to another colour. The fictional sample is a restaurant general manager, and like every Catalyst resume it opens on the current job, with no summary.

Why Catalyst suits a color accent resume
Catalyst keeps its colour to the uppercase headings, the rules under them and the small square bullets, all teal, while names, dates and text stay dark. Because the heading rules take the heading colour, the Accent Color setting changes nearly all of Catalyst's colour at once. It also suits experienced people whose latest job carries the application, as a general manager's does.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie uses blue in its centred header and short heading underlines and keeps a summary paragraph; choose it if you want a summary and a lighter touch of colour.
What goes in each section, in Catalyst's order
Catalyst prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Work Experience. With no summary above it, the first bullet of your current job is your introduction: seats, annual sales and team size. Then cost, staff retention and guest results, the numbers an owner looks for.
- Skills. Catalyst prints labelled rows after experience. Give the point-of-sale, inventory and scheduling software by product name, since hospitality postings often list them.
- Education. A hospitality degree or culinary diploma on one line. Without one, a relevant certificate program can sit here instead.
- Certifications. Food safety manager certification with issuer and year. If a posting asks for it, mention it in the headline as well, because Catalyst prints this list near the end.

How to make the sample yours
Write a headline that replaces the summary
Catalyst has no summary, so put level, format and scale in the headline, as the sample does with "General Manager, Full-Service Restaurants, $4M+ Annual Sales".
Pick an accent that reads as small text
The Accent Color setting recolours headings, the rules beneath them and the bullets. Choose a colour dark enough for small capital letters: navy, deep green or burgundy work; pale yellow or pink do not.
Keep to one colour
Leave everything else dark. A second highlight colour added later in a word processor competes with the headings and makes the page busy.
Nod to the employer, loosely
A colour close to the company's own can be a pleasant touch, but there is no need to match a logo exactly. Teal, navy and deep green suit almost any employer.
Swap the restaurant numbers for your own
A hotel, retail or fitness club manager can keep the shape: revenue and team size first, then cost, retention and customer results.

Mistakes to avoid
- Several colours on one page, such as teal headings with red dates and blue links. One colour used consistently looks like a decision.
- A pale accent that fades on a phone screen or a worn printer cartridge.
- Writing a summary in Catalyst and expecting it to print. Use the headline, or choose Leslie if you want a summary paragraph.
- Duties every manager has, such as "responsible for opening and closing". Show what changed while you were in charge.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
What is a color accent resume?
A resume in dark text on white with one colour used for a few structural elements, usually headings, rules or bullets. The colour helps a reader find sections; it carries no information of its own.
Which accent colour works best on a resume?
A dark, saturated colour such as navy, teal, deep green or burgundy, which stays legible as small text and in print. Pale tints are hard to read as headings.
Can I change the accent colour in Resumity?
Yes, in part. The Accent Color control in the editor recolours section headings and bullet markers in the preview and the PDF. Header colours, such as Leslie's blue name and Olivia's blue band, stay as designed, and the DOCX keeps each template's original colours.
Is colour appropriate on a hospitality resume?
A single accent is fine in hospitality, retail and most customer-facing fields. For very formal employers, a black-and-grey template is the safer default.
Should I choose Catalyst or Leslie?
Catalyst if your latest role is your best argument and you are happy without a summary. Leslie if you want a summary paragraph and colour limited to the header and short underlines.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Catalyst PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
