Project-focused resume template for when your projects say the most

Short answer

FAANGPath suits a resume where projects are the strongest evidence: labelled skill rows come first, then a short work history, then projects with their own description and bullets. No Resumity template prints projects above work experience, so keep an unrelated job to a few lines and the projects will still start high on the page. The fictional sample is a junior full-stack developer who moved over from warehouse inventory work.

Why FAANGPath suits a project-focused resume

FAANGPath is designed for technical candidates who want languages and tools read before jobs: summary, labelled skill rows with a dot after each label, experience, then projects. When the experience section is one short entry, the projects land in the upper half of a centred black and grey page with nothing else competing for attention.

Second choice: Daniel. Daniel prints projects in the same position, with headings in rounded grey pills and skills in a three-column grid; a better fit for a front-end developer whose projects are mostly interface work.

FAANGPath template details and test results

What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order

FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Say what you build and with which stack, then point down the page: "three deployed web apps, one used weekly by a food pantry". Two sentences should tell a hiring manager that the proof sits in the projects.
  2. Skills. List only what at least one project or job on the page actually uses. If a reader picks any item and asks "where?", there should be an answer below. Languages and frameworks go under Technical; testing, deployment and version control under Tools.
  3. Work Experience. Keep a non-technical job to two or three bullets and choose the ones that carry over: a tool you built for the team, data you cleaned up, people you trained. This entry shows reliability and dates; it is not meant to outshine the projects.
  4. Projects. Each entry gets a name, a one-line description (what it is, what it runs on, where to see it) and two bullets: the part you built yourself, and a result someone could check, such as users, test coverage or time saved. Keeping the link in the description line puts it right beside the project name.
  5. Education. The bootcamp certificate and any earlier qualification, one line each. A capstone belongs in Projects with its own bullets rather than as a note under the certificate.

Milwaukee, WI | andre.lucas@example.com | (414) 555-0151 | github.com/sample-andre-lucas | linkedin.com/in/sample-andre-lucas

Junior full-stack developer building web apps in TypeScript, React and Node.js, with three projects deployed and in use, including a stock and pickup tracker for a neighborhood food pantry. Previously four years in warehouse inventory control, where a home-made count tool is still used by the team.

Experience

Inventory Control Specialist, Lakefront Home Supply Distribution, Milwaukee, WI (03/2021 to 06/2025)

  • Built a Google Apps Script tool that turned handwritten cycle count sheets into a shared spreadsheet, now used by 14 counters.
  • Reconciled inventory discrepancies across about 9,000 SKUs and reported variances to the operations manager each week.
  • Trained six new hires on RF scanning and the count procedure.

Projects

PantryTrack: Stock and pickup tracker for a volunteer-run food pantry, live since 01/2026. React, Node.js, PostgreSQL. Code: github.com/sample-andre-lucas/pantrytrack

  • Designed the database schema and built the REST API and the low-stock email alerts.
  • Used by 11 volunteers to log about 300 pickups a week, replacing a paper sign-in sheet.

ShiftSwap: Bootcamp capstone, team of four: a shift-trading app for hourly workers. TypeScript, Express, Docker.

  • Built the authentication flow and the shift-matching endpoint.
  • Wrote Jest tests that raised API coverage from 40% to 85% before demo day.

Booking site for a local barbershop: Freelance project for a two-chair shop, 2026. Next.js with a hosted calendar.

  • Replaced phone-only booking with online slots; about half of appointments now come through the site.

How to make the sample yours

Choose three projects

Pick the ones closest to the jobs you want and that you could walk through line by line in an interview. A long list of course exercises makes the strong entries harder to find.

Lead with something people can open

A deployed project outranks one that only runs on your laptop. Put the live one first and check the link on a phone, without being logged in, the day you apply.

Describe your work, not the app

"Volunteers can log pickups" describes the product. "Designed the Postgres schema and wrote the low-stock alert job" describes you. Keep a few words of the first and give most of the space to the second.

Mark team and solo work

For a bootcamp or group build, give the team size and your share ("team of four; built the auth flow and matching endpoint"). Interviewers will ask, and a precise answer reads better than a vague one.

Adapt it outside software

A data analyst can list notebooks and dashboards, an engineering graduate a capstone rig or competition vehicle, a researcher a study. Keep the pattern: name, one-line description, two results.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • full-stack development
  • JavaScript
  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Node.js
  • REST APIs
  • PostgreSQL
  • Git
  • automated testing
  • Jest
  • CI/CD
  • Docker
  • responsive design
  • deployment

Mistakes to avoid

  • Course or tutorial clones presented as original work. If you followed a course, say so and describe what you changed or added.
  • Links that open a 404 page, a private repository or a README with nothing in it.
  • A projects section longer than everything else put together. Three solid entries persuade more than eight thin ones.
  • Deleting your earlier job to make room. Dates and a steady employer still count, and an empty stretch on the page raises its own questions.

How the sample PDF reads in text extractors

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put projects above my work experience?

Not in Resumity: every template fixes its section order, and projects always print after experience. Keep unrelated jobs short so the projects start higher. If you have no work history worth listing, leave experience empty and the projects follow your skills directly.

How many projects should a resume include?

Two to four fits comfortably on one page. Choose the ones that match the job and that you can discuss in depth; the rest can stay on your GitHub profile for anyone who wants more.

Do bootcamp or group projects count?

Yes, as long as you say they were part of a course or a team and describe your share. A capstone with a clearly stated role is often better evidence than a solo project copied from a tutorial.

Should project entries show dates?

A month and year helps a reader see that the work is recent and that your skills have grown. The sample puts it in the description line, next to the stack.

Is a project-focused resume only for developers?

No. Engineering graduates, data analysts, researchers and career changers in many fields use the same shape whenever what they made says more than their job titles. Designers usually point to a portfolio instead.

Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
