Resume template for Estonia: an Estonian CV that opens on your work
Short answer
Catalyst fits an Estonian CV for experienced specialists: it opens on your latest job, the starting point Work in Estonia recommends, then lists skills with language levels, education, certificates and further training. EURES puts the limit at two A4 pages and calls a photo optional; this layout has none. The fictional sample is a QA automation engineer at a Tallinn company that builds public-sector software.

Why Catalyst suits an Estonia resume
Catalyst prints no summary and goes from the header straight to work experience, which is where Work in Estonia says an Estonian CV should begin. Its labelled skill rows give languages a row of their own, and the teal headings over full-width rules keep a dense technical page easy to scan.
Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta adds a summary and prints education straight after the jobs, closer to the education-first outline EURES gives, which helps a recent graduate.
What goes in each section, in Catalyst's order
Catalyst prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Work Experience. Work in Estonia tells applicants to adjust the CV for each job and draw attention to the skills the employer stressed in its offer. If the posting asks for Playwright and accessibility testing, those words belong in the first two bullets of your current role, with a number attached.
- Skills. Work in Estonia names language skills among the four things every CV should carry, and warns against being too generous with the truth about them. Give Estonian, English and Russian a CEFR level each. EURES notes that civil service posts require Estonian to the extent the law sets.
- Education. EURES lists education first in its outline of an Estonian CV, but Catalyst always prints it after skills. For an engineer with eight years of work that is the better order; a graduate would choose Henrietta instead. One detail line, here the thesis topic, is enough.
- Certifications. A testing certificate prints near the bottom of the page. If the advertisement lists it as a requirement, also name it in the first bullet of your current job, because Catalyst has no summary to carry it.
- Continuing training. EURES gives continuing vocational training a section of its own, separate from education. List each course with its length and year; short courses taken while working show the reader that your skills are current.

How to make the sample yours
Aim for one page, never three
Work in Estonia suggests treating the CV as a single page with the most important information and says it should not run past two. EURES also sets two A4 pages as the limit. Resumity prints on A4, so the preview shows the length the employer receives.
Photo: your choice, top right
EURES says a photograph is not compulsory in Estonia; when people add one, it is a passport-style or portrait photo, usually in the upper right corner. Resumity templates have no photo area, so insert it into the DOCX in Word if you want it.
Leave salary out unless the ad asks
EURES advises giving a desired salary only when the job offer asks for it. When one does, state a single gross monthly figure or a narrow range, and say whether it is negotiable.
Check for the company's own format
EURES notes that larger companies may have their own CV format. When an employer asks you to fill in its form, copy your bullets into it instead of attaching this file alone.
Explain your link to Estonia
Work in Estonia suggests a cover letter of about ten sentences that says why you want to work in Estonia and mentions any earlier connection to the country. EURES adds that a letter of motivation should be no longer than one A4 page.

Mistakes to avoid
- Rounding a B1 language up to "fluent". Work in Estonia asks for clear language levels and warns against stretching them.
- A salary expectation the advertisement never asked for; EURES says to give one only on request.
- A third page. EURES and Work in Estonia both set two pages as the ceiling.
- One unchanged CV for every vacancy, when Work in Estonia says to adjust it to the skills each employer emphasised.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 5 of 5 | 7 of 7 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 5 of 5 | 7 of 7 |

Frequently asked questions
How long should a CV be in Estonia?
Two A4 pages at most, says EURES. Work in Estonia goes further and suggests thinking of the CV as one page that gathers the most important information, with two as the absolute limit.
Do Estonian employers expect a photo?
No. EURES says a photograph is not compulsory; if you add one, it is usually a passport-style or portrait photo in the upper right corner. Resumity templates print no photo, so add it in Word.
Do I need to speak Estonian to apply?
Not for every job. EURES notes that civil service roles require Estonian to the extent the law provides. For other roles, Work in Estonia's advice is to state each language level clearly and honestly so the employer can judge it.
Should I add references to an Estonian CV?
You can. EURES says references are not obligatory but may increase your chances, and suggests bringing them to the interview if they are not on the CV.
What should the cover letter cover?
EURES lists your goals for the role, three to five positive traits, how your experience fits, why you want this company and why you are the best candidate. Work in Estonia keeps it to about ten sentences.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Catalyst PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
