Resume template for Ukraine: the Ukrainian resume, step by step

Short answer

Daniel suits a Ukrainian resume for IT and product roles: the vacancy title under your name, a short profile, skills with language levels, then jobs newest first, on no more than the two pages the Kyiv City Employment Centre allows. Both Ukrainian sources used here include a photo; Resumity templates print none, so add one in Word. The fictional sample is an IT project manager at a Lviv software company.

Why Daniel suits an Ukraine resume

Daniel prints the job title right under your name, the spot where the Kyiv City Employment Centre suggests naming the vacancy, and sets skills before experience in a three-column grid. Its rounded grey heading pills give the page the softer look Resumity suggests for product managers and designers, without adding colour.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian keeps the same order with labelled skill rows and no colour, a quieter choice for engineering, banking or public-sector employers.

Daniel template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Daniel's order

Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Two or three sentences: the products you deliver, team size, clients and working languages. The Kyiv centre says that when you apply for a specific job, the title of that vacancy replaces a general objective, so the headline does that work and the profile can go straight to evidence.
  2. Skills. The Kyiv centre asks for a level next to each foreign language and stresses soft skills as well as computer skills; Lviv Polytechnic's rules add that one of the listed languages should be your native one. Daniel prints the groups as unlabelled columns, so keep all the languages in the third.
  3. Work Experience. Both Ukrainian sources ask for reverse chronological order: dates, company, position and duties, newest job first. Lviv Polytechnic recommends verbs that prove the work ("managed", "controlled", "developed") and says reasons for leaving stay off the page; prepare that answer for the interview.
  4. Education. Lviv Polytechnic lists higher education in reverse order without secondary school, with the specialty and degree level. The Kyiv centre adds that the longer ago you graduated, the less space this section should take, so a single line is enough here.
  5. Certifications. A delivery certificate prints near the bottom of the page. If a client or employer names it in the vacancy, mention it in the profile too, where it is read early.
  6. Activities. Lviv Polytechnic's rules include an activities section for memberships and work outside the job that shows initiative and teamwork, while the Kyiv centre says hobbies belong only if they relate to the job. Mentoring and meetup talks meet both conditions.

How to make the sample yours

Add a business photo in Word

The Kyiv City Employment Centre suggests a three-quarter-view photo with a slight smile, in business clothes, and Lviv Polytechnic's rules put a photo next to your name. Resumity templates print no photo, so insert one into the DOCX in Word before you send it.

Keep two or three versions

The Kyiv centre says several focused resumes work better than one general one, and suggests two or three versions if you have more than one goal. Here that could mean one for delivery manager roles and one for scrum master roles.

Decide on date of birth and family status

Lviv Polytechnic's rules, written in 2016, list date of birth and marital status among personal data, while the Kyiv centre's list starts with full name, address, phone and email. The templates have no field for them; add a line in Word only if you want to.

No "Резюме" heading at the top

Lviv Polytechnic says the word "Resume" is not written at the top of the page and that empty sections are dropped. Resumity templates open with your name, and any section you leave empty simply does not print.

Ask referees before writing "on request"

Lviv Polytechnic says to use "references available on request" only if you can actually provide them, and to agree with each person in advance. Keep their names and phone numbers ready for the interview.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing "no work experience" as a graduate. The Kyiv centre says internships count and you should list achievements, such as a thesis project, instead.
  • One general resume for every vacancy, when the Kyiv centre recommends two or three focused versions.
  • Explaining why you left each job; Lviv Polytechnic keeps reasons for leaving off the page.
  • Hobbies unrelated to the work, which the Kyiv centre advises leaving out.
  • Going past two pages, the limit the Kyiv City Employment Centre sets.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a resume be in Ukraine?

No more than two pages, according to the Kyiv City Employment Centre. The longer ago you studied, the less room education needs, which usually frees space for recent work.

Is a photo expected on a Ukrainian resume?

Both sources used here include one. The Kyiv centre advises a business photo in three-quarter view, and Lviv Polytechnic's rules place a photo next to the name. Resumity templates print no photo, so add one to the DOCX in Word.

Should I include my patronymic?

The Kyiv City Employment Centre's list of personal data starts with surname, first name and patronymic. Follow it in a Ukrainian-language resume; the English sample uses first name and surname.

What if I have just graduated and have no work experience?

Do not write that you have none. The Kyiv centre says internships count and suggests listing achievements such as a thesis project; Lviv Polytechnic adds work placements, coursework topics and volunteering.

Do I list references on a Ukrainian resume?

Lviv Polytechnic's rules mention a single line, "references available on request", to be used only when you can actually provide them. Agree with each person beforehand and keep their names and phone numbers ready.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
