CV template for Hungary (Hungarian CV format)

Short answer

Meridian suits a Hungarian CV (önéletrajz) in finance: a short profile, then IT and language skills, work history and education, with a driving licence and hobbies at the end. EURES says a Hungarian CV is one or two pages, written in Hungarian and, for some posts, in English too. The fictional sample is a management accountant at a shared service centre in Budapest.

Why Meridian suits a Hungary resume

Meridian prints the skills block right under the profile, so the IT skills and language proficiency that EURES counts among the required details are read before the jobs. Its black and grey layout with thin rules gives a sober finance look, and the closing custom list holds the driving licence and hobbies.

Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta puts experience and then education ahead of a three-column skills grid; pick it if your degree outweighs your systems.

Meridian template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Meridian's order

Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Two or three sentences: role, years, the reporting you own and the languages you work in. EURES says the cover letter and the CV must be consistent with each other, so use the same job title here as in the letter.
  2. Skills. EURES names IT skills and language proficiency among the details a Hungarian CV must always include. Give each language a level and mention a language exam certificate if you hold one, since EURES says copies of those certificates go with the application.
  3. Work Experience. Places of work and experience, newest job first. Name the closes, ledgers and reports you handled. A University of Debrecen career talk adds that internships and volunteer work count as experience when you are starting out.
  4. Education. EURES asks for education in reverse chronological order. The Debrecen career centre's talks suggest adding your thesis topic, study abroad and roles in student organisations, and say secondary school needs no line unless it was a specialised school.
  5. Certifications. EURES lists training courses and professional qualifications as a block of their own, newest first. ACCA and similar credentials print near the bottom in Meridian, so name the main one in the headline too.
  6. Driving licence and interests. EURES closes its list of required details with the driving licence and hobbies and leisure activities. Give each a single line; a hobby with a club, a role or a result says more than one word.

How to make the sample yours

Keep Hungarian and English versions in step

EURES says CVs must be prepared in Hungarian and, depending on the post, also in English. When the advert is in English, send that version too, with the same jobs, dates and figures as the Hungarian one.

Attach proof of qualifications

EURES says applicants must always attach copies of documents proving the qualifications the job requires, along with copies of language examination certificates. Scan the degree and language exam certificate before you start applying.

Ask before you name a referee

EURES suggests references and asks you to request permission before putting a person's name, phone number, position and company on your CV.

Sign the CV

The Debrecen career talk advised finishing the CV with your signature. Resumity templates print no signature line, so add it with the date at the end of the DOCX file in Word. EURES asks for a handwritten signature on the cover letter when you apply on paper.

Leave family details off

The Debrecen talk noted that CVs once carried information about the family and no longer do. None of the sources asks for a date of birth, so add one only when a form requests it.

Tidy your online profiles

EURES warns that employers and recruiters will probably check your online presence and social media, so make sure your public profile matches the CV.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending only an English CV to a Hungarian employer, when EURES says CVs must be in Hungarian.
  • Leaving out IT skills, language levels or the driving licence, all on EURES's list of required details.
  • Applying without copies of the degree and language exam certificates the job asks for.
  • Putting a referee's phone number on the CV before they have agreed.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a CV be in Hungary?

One or two pages. EURES says a Hungarian CV cannot be longer than that.

Which language should a Hungarian CV be in?

Hungarian, and for some posts English as well, according to EURES. Keep the two versions identical in content.

What must a Hungarian CV always include?

EURES lists personal and contact details, education and training in reverse chronological order, workplaces and experience, IT skills, language proficiency, driving licence, other relevant skills, and hobbies and leisure activities.

Do I sign my CV in Hungary?

A University of Debrecen career talk advised signing it, and EURES asks for a handwritten signature on a cover letter sent on paper. Resumity templates print no signature line; add one in Word to the DOCX file.

Should I put a photo on a Hungarian CV?

None of the sources requires one. The Debrecen talk listed a poor photo among common mistakes, so if you add one, use a proper portrait. Resumity templates print no photo; insert it in Word in the DOCX file.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.

Sources, checked 29 October 2026

We opened every page below on that date. Pay, rules and requirements change, so check the source before you rely on a detail.

  1. EURES (European Commission and the public employment services): Living and working conditions: Hungary (CVs must be prepared in Hungarian and, depending on the post, also in English; no longer than one or two pages; must include personal data and contact details, education and training in reverse chronological order, workplaces and experience, IT skills, language proficiency, driving licence, other skills, hobbies; ask referees for permission before including their name, phone, position and company; attach copies of qualification documents and language exam certificates; employers will probably check online presence; cover letter one page, signed by hand if on paper, consistent with the CV.)
  2. University of Debrecen, Student Career Centre (Hallgatói Karrierközpont): Report on Dr Edina Márkus's career management lecture on job seeking (2022) (Family information used to be included in CVs but no longer is; the European (Europass) format is the most used, listing recent experience and training first; internships and volunteering count as experience; include language skills and driving licence; finish the CV with your signature; secondary school not necessarily listed; common mistakes include a bad photo and poor spelling.)
  3. University of Debrecen, Student Career Centre (Hallgatói Karrierközpont): Report on a Career Management series lecture by Dr Edina Márkus on job-seeking practice (Mentioning the thesis topic, study abroad and roles in university organisations makes a CV stand out; very short jobs, secondary schooling irrelevant to the job and template phrases do not help; Europass is available free in 27 languages.)
