CV template for Romania (Romanian CV format)

Short answer

Catalyst suits a Romanian CV for an experienced developer: it opens on the current job, which EURES says is where Romanian CVs customarily begin, and fits the two-page ceiling that university career guides in Bucharest set. EURES says to write the CV in Romanian and add a version in an international language when the job needs one. The fictional sample is a backend Java developer in Cluj-Napoca.

Why Catalyst suits a Romania resume

Catalyst prints no summary and starts straight on work experience, matching EURES's note that a Romanian CV customarily begins with the current or most recent job. Its large left-aligned name, teal headings and IBM Plex Sans type suit a senior developer whose latest role carries the application.

Second choice: FAANGPath. FAANGPath adds a short profile and puts the tech stack above the jobs; pick it for a first or second developer role.

Catalyst template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Catalyst's order

Catalyst prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Work Experience. EURES says it is customary to begin with the current or most recent job. For each one give the employer, city, month and year at both ends and three or four results, with numbers written as digits, as the USAMV career centre's guide asks.
  2. Skills. Frameworks, databases and cloud services, then spoken languages with a level. EURES says that when a job needs a foreign language, the CV should also exist in an international language, so the English level here should match the version you send.
  3. Education. The ASE careers guide lists studies in reverse chronological order, the institution you finished last coming first. Give the degree, faculty, university, city and years; add the thesis title when it matches the job.
  4. Certifications. Vendor certificates print near the end in Catalyst. Keep the certificate itself ready: EURES says candidates bring documents confirming their education and qualifications to the interview.

How to make the sample yours

Write the Romanian version first

EURES says the CV should be drawn up in Romanian, and also in an international language if a foreign language is required. The ASE guide lists that choice among the questions to settle before writing. The sample is in English; translate it for Romanian-language adverts.

Hold it to two pages

The USAMV career centre's guide says a CV should not be very long, two pages at most, and the ASE guide gives the same limit. Trim the oldest job to two lines before cutting recent results.

Decide on a photo

USAMV recommends using a photo in the CV, the ASE guide says to add one if you think it relevant, and EURES notes an unsolicited CV may come with a photograph. Resumity templates print none; insert one in Word in the DOCX file if you choose to.

Offer references on request

The ASE guide says not to put references in the CV and to provide them only when asked. Keep two former managers briefed and their details in a separate note.

Use the address you live at now

USAMV asks for the address where you live at the moment you apply. If you are relocating to Cluj-Napoca or Bucharest, update it before you send the CV.

Switch to Europass when an advert asks

The EURES network recommends the Europass platform, and the ASE guide includes a Europass model. When an advert names Europass, fill in that form instead of sending this layout.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending only an English CV to a Romanian-language advert, when EURES says the CV should be in Romanian.
  • Going past two pages; both the USAMV and ASE guides set two as the limit.
  • Printing referees' phone numbers up front when the ASE guide says references are given only on request.
  • Writing figures out in words; the USAMV guide asks for numbers in digits.

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a CV be in Romania?

Two pages at most. The career centre at USAMV Bucharest and the ASE careers guide both set that limit.

Should a Romanian CV be written in Romanian?

Yes. EURES says the CV should be drawn up in Romanian, and also in an international language when the job requires a foreign language.

Do Romanian employers expect a photo on a CV?

Advice varies: USAMV's career centre recommends one, the ASE guide says to add one if relevant, and EURES mentions that an unsolicited CV may include a photograph. Resumity templates print no photo; add one in Word to the DOCX file.

Should I list references on a Romanian CV?

The ASE careers guide says no: provide references only when an employer asks for them.

Is the Europass CV required in Romania?

It is recommended rather than required. EURES recommends the Europass platform and the ASE guide includes a Europass model; use that form when an advert asks for it by name.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Catalyst PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
