Resume template for India, from CGPA to Class X marks
Short answer
Meridian suits most Indian resumes: a short summary, skills, jobs newest first, then an education block carrying your CGPA and Class XII and X percentages, the details Indian placement offices ask for. It prints in black and grey, which IIIT Delhi recommends because CVs get photocopied. The fictional sample is a Pune data analyst two years out of a B.E., applying off-campus.

Why Meridian suits an India resume
Meridian uses no colour at all, matching IIIT Delhi's advice to avoid colour because a CV may be photocopied for a selection panel. Its skills sit above the jobs, so an analyst's SQL, Python and Power BI are read first, and the education block with board marks follows the work, the order Gurugram University suggests once you have a job.
Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta prints education straight after experience, the highest of the seven, which suits a final-year student whose internship is short and whose marks carry the application.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Two or three lines: your field, years of work, the tools you use daily and the role you want next. Gurugram University's placement cell asks you to drop words like "hardworking", "team player" and "self-motivated" and let the bullets prove those qualities instead.
- Skills. List languages, software and data tools you could be tested on in an interview round; Gurugram University says to include only skills you can demonstrate. IIIT Delhi adds that a tool already named in an internship bullet need not be repeated here.
- Work Experience. Newest job first, internships included. IIIT Delhi asks interns to say who the work was for, how long it ran, whether the output is actually in use and how big it was, measured in rows, screens or tables rather than adjectives.
- Education. Degree with CGPA, then Class XII and Class X with board, year and percentage, newest first. IIT Kanpur's placement office expects exactly this table, and IIT Madras checks CGPA against the grade card, so copy it to the decimal places printed there.
- Certifications. Gurugram University wants only certifications you can verify. Meridian prints them after education; if one is a job requirement, such as a cloud or Power BI certificate for an analyst post, name it in the summary too.

How to make the sample yours
Leave the photo off
IIT Madras bars pictures on resumes submitted through its placement cell, and none of the other three Indian guides cited here asks for one. Resumity templates print no photo, so there is nothing to remove.
Copy marks exactly
Write CGPA as the grade card shows it (8.42, not "about 8.4") and give Class X and XII as percentages with the year you passed. IIT Madras cross-checks CGPA with its academic section and treats rounding as a discrepancy.
Show ranks as numbers
If you cleared an entrance exam with a strong result, IIT Kanpur's placement office asks for the rank and year, for example "AIR 1234, JEE Main 2019", rather than a percentile. Add it as an education detail line.
Drop the home address
Gurugram University calls a residential address generally unnecessary unless the employer asks; give mobile, email, LinkedIn and the city. IIIT Delhi's older sample CV still prints a full house address, so expect to see both styles.
Keep a one-page version
IIIT Delhi says a CV should not usually run past two pages, and IIT Kanpur's portal takes one-page resumes. Resumity prints on A4, the size Indian offices use, so the preview shows the real page break.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- SQL
- Python
- pandas
- Power BI
- Excel
- data cleaning
- dashboards
- KPI reporting
- credit risk
- loan portfolio
- roll-rate analysis
- data quality checks
- stakeholder reporting
Mistakes to avoid
- Rounding a CGPA of 8.36 up to 8.4. IIT Madras verifies the figure against the grade card and treats rounding as a discrepancy.
- Listing a class assignment as a project. IIIT Delhi says a project has to be substantial, with its size, technology and tools stated.
- A summary built on "hardworking, team player, detail-oriented", the stock phrases Gurugram University asks students to replace with results.
- Giving an entrance-exam percentile where IIT Kanpur expects the rank and the year.
- Colour bars, icons or a skills chart that turn grey and muddy on a photocopy, which is why IIIT Delhi advises against colour.

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
Should I include Class X and XII marks on an Indian resume?
Early in your career, yes. IIIT Delhi asks for the year and percentage of both board exams plus your CGPA, and IIT Kanpur's placement office wants all three in one education table. After several years of work they matter less, though many application forms still ask for them.
How many pages should a resume be in India?
One page for campus applications, two at most later. IIIT Delhi says a CV should not usually be longer than two pages, and IIT Kanpur's placement portal takes one-page resumes alongside a longer master copy.
Do Indian employers want a photo on the resume?
The guides used here do not ask for one, and IIT Madras forbids pictures on resumes sent through its placement cell. Resumity templates print no photo. If a specific employer's form demands one, add it to the DOCX in Word for that application only.
Should I write my CGPA or convert it to a percentage?
Write the CGPA exactly as your grade card prints it; IIIT Delhi asks for it in all cases and IIT Madras checks it to the decimal. Add a percentage only when an employer's form asks for one, using your university's own conversion rule.
Should my resume show my home address?
Not usually. Gurugram University's placement cell calls a residential address unnecessary unless the employer requests it, and suggests mobile, a professional email and LinkedIn. The sample gives only the city.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
