Resume template for Bangladesh: a CV for Dhaka employers

Short answer

Henrietta fits a Bangladeshi CV for business and export jobs: a profile, jobs newest first, then education with CGPA, skills with English and Bangla levels, training and a references list. AIUB's placement office notes that many employers expect a formal headshot, which you add in Word. The fictional sample is a senior merchandiser at a knitwear exporter near Dhaka.

Why Henrietta suits a Bangladesh resume

Henrietta prints education directly after the jobs, higher than most of the seven, which matters in Bangladesh where AIUB says education plays a critical role in hiring. Its plain black and grey business layout with a left-aligned name matches the simple, clean design both university career offices ask for.

Second choice: Leslie. Leslie keeps experience first and adds one touch of blue in a centred header, for a candidate whose degree is less central than their buyer accounts.

Henrietta template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order

Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. AIUB separates the two openings: a career objective for fresh graduates, a summary of experience, skills and results for everyone else. ULAB's Career Services Office suggests three to five lines that use the title of the job you want, as the sample does with "senior merchandiser".
  2. Work Experience. Newest first, and results rather than duties, as both offices ask. For export work that means pieces shipped, buyers handled, on-time shipment and costing wins. ULAB's formula fits each bullet: what you did, with which skill, and what came of it.
  3. Education. Degree, institution, years and CGPA if it is notable, per AIUB. ULAB adds HSC or A level results for recent graduates and says school details matter less once you have work experience, so the sample stops at the bachelor's degree.
  4. Skills. AIUB asks for a dedicated skills section and for English and Bangla with a level, since English is valued highly by multinationals and exporters. Henrietta shows each skill group as an unlabelled column, so keep the languages together in their own column.
  5. Certifications. AIUB suggests a separate section for training and certificates that relate to the job. Henrietta prints it near the end, after skills; a course that the advertisement asks for belongs in the summary as well.
  6. References. A references list. ULAB's sample CV names a professional referee such as a department head, lecturer or manager, with designation, company and email, and tells you not to print the referee's phone number or home address.

How to make the sample yours

Add a formal photo in Word

AIUB writes that many Bangladeshi employers expect a professional headshot in formal attire; ULAB's sample says a photo is preferred but not mandatory. Resumity templates print no photo, so if you want one, insert it into the DOCX in Word beside your name.

Decide how to handle references

AIUB says writing "References available upon request" is common, though some employers ask for names upfront; if you list them, give two or three people who know you. ULAB's template prints one or two with email but no phone. Pick one approach per application.

Fit the length to your stage

AIUB sets one page for fresh graduates and accepts two for experienced professionals. Resumity prints on A4, so the preview shows where page two begins; trim the older job before the newer one.

Show city and postcode only

ULAB's Career Services Office says the full home address is unnecessary and that area, city and postcode are enough. The sample prints Dhaka; add the area in the location field if you want.

Point to work abroad or with foreign buyers

AIUB notes that international exposure counts with multinationals and export-oriented companies. Name the buyer countries, any overseas training, and the language you negotiate in.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • apparel merchandising
  • knitwear
  • tech pack
  • costing
  • price negotiation
  • lab dip approval
  • fit samples
  • pre-production sample
  • time and action plan
  • fabric booking
  • trims sourcing
  • ex-factory date
  • third-party inspection
  • buyer communication
  • compliance audit

Mistakes to avoid

  • An email address that does not include your name, which AIUB lists as a requirement for the contact block.
  • Printing a referee's phone number or home address, which ULAB's sample CV tells applicants not to do.
  • A career objective full of aspirations when you already have years of export work; AIUB keeps the objective for fresh graduates.
  • Listing duties ("responsible for buyer follow-up") with no shipment, cost or delivery figure attached.
  • Stretching to three pages; AIUB caps an experienced professional's CV at two.

Frequently asked questions

Should a Bangladeshi CV have a photo?

Often. AIUB's placement office says many employers in Bangladesh expect a formal headshot, while ULAB's Career Services Office calls it preferred but not mandatory. Resumity templates print no photo; add one to the DOCX in Word if the employer or sector expects it.

How long should a CV be in Bangladesh?

One page for a fresh graduate and up to two for an experienced professional, according to AIUB. ULAB gives the same one-to-two-page range unless you have many years of experience or published research.

Do I need to list references?

Not always. AIUB says "References available upon request" is common practice, though some employers ask for names at the start. If you list them, give two or three people with title, company and email, and, as ULAB advises, no phone number or home address.

Should I include my SSC and HSC results?

Yes as a recent graduate, usually not later. ULAB's sample shows HSC or A level results with the passing year for new graduates, and notes that school details matter less once you have relevant work experience.

How should I show my English level?

Give both Bangla and English with a level, as AIUB recommends, and add evidence where you can: daily work with foreign buyers, a test score, or study abroad. AIUB says English is especially valued by multinational companies.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
