Analytics engineer resume template
Short answer
Use FAANGPath for an analytics engineer resume. Its skill rows sit above the jobs, so dbt, tested SQL, Git and CI are visible before a reader reaches an older Data Analyst title. The fictional sample moved from analyst to analytics engineer at the same HR software company: revenue models that match the finance close, 25 shared metric definitions, a faster nightly run and pull request checks.

Why FAANGPath suits an analytics engineer resume
FAANGPath prints labelled skill rows before work experience. The question behind most analytics engineering screens is whether you work like an engineer, with version control, tests and code review, and rows naming dbt, Git and CI answer it before the job history, which for many candidates starts with an analyst title.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian keeps the same section order and plain page, with a colon after each skill label and rules running beside the headings.
What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order
FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. State the move if you made one ("moved over from data analysis two years ago") and what your models feed: finance, sales, product, the board deck. Analytics engineers are hired to make numbers agree, so say whose numbers you made agree.
- Skills. Technical: SQL, dbt (models, tests, macros), dimensional modelling, Jinja, metric definitions. Tools: the warehouse, the BI layer, the loader and Git. Add Python only at the level you use it; "Python (scripting)" is honest and fine.
- Work Experience. Write about models, tests and definitions, not dashboards. Good evidence: a layer you rebuilt, metrics you defined once for several tools, run time you cut, CI or code review you introduced, and a reconciliation against a source of truth such as the finance close.
- Education. Economics, business, maths or any degree with numbers in it is common here. One line is enough; the dbt work above it matters more.
- Certifications. The dbt Analytics Engineering Certification prints at the bottom. dbt Labs recommends at least six months of dbt experience before the exam, so it reads best next to bullets that show that experience.

Nashville, TN | brianna.collins@example.com | (615) 555-0186 | linkedin.com/in/sample-brianna-collins | github.com/sample-brianna-collins
Analytics engineer who moved over from data analysis two years ago. Builds and tests the dbt models behind revenue and product metrics, so finance, sales and product read the same numbers in every tool.
Experience
Analytics Engineer, Peoplegrid, Nashville, TN (03/2024 to Present)
- Rebuilt the revenue models in dbt as staging, intermediate and mart layers with tests on every primary key; ARR now matches the finance close each month.
- Defined 25 core metrics, including ARR, net revenue retention and active seats, in the dbt semantic layer so Looker and the board deck use one definition.
- Cut the nightly dbt run from 70 to 25 minutes with incremental models and by retiring 60 unused ones.
- Added CI on pull requests that builds changed models and their children, plus code review for analysts who contribute SQL.
Data Analyst, Peoplegrid, Nashville, TN (06/2022 to 02/2024)
- Answered about 15 sales and product questions a week in SQL and Looker.
- Found three conflicting definitions of an active customer across dashboards and proposed the single one the company adopted.
- Wrote the team's first dbt models for product usage data, which led to the move into analytics engineering.

How to make the sample yours
Show the analyst-to-engineer move as two titles
The sample lists Data Analyst and Analytics Engineer under the same company. If your move was internal, do the same: it shows growth and explains why the earlier bullets are about analysis.
Name the metrics you own
ARR, net revenue retention and active seats suit a SaaS company. Swap in your own core metrics, and say which tools now read them from one definition.
Put tests next to models
A count of models means little alone. Write "with tests on every primary key" or "freshness checks on all sources" so a reader sees that the models are trusted, not just numerous.
Match the warehouse and BI tool
Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift or Databricks; Looker, Tableau, Power BI or Mode. Change the sample to your stack and leave out the ones you have only read about.
Keep one reconciliation bullet
Matching the finance close, the CRM or the billing system is the proof analytics engineering exists for. Say what you reconciled and how close it came.
Keywords to keep where they are true

Mistakes to avoid
- Describing dashboard building as analytics engineering. The role is the modelled layer underneath.
- Writing "dbt" in skills with no tests, documentation or CI anywhere in the bullets.
- Removing your analyst years. They explain your business knowledge, which is half of this job.
- Claiming Python or Spark depth because one model used a Python step.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 5 of 5 | 7 of 7 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 5 of 5 | 7 of 7 |

Frequently asked questions
What separates an analytics engineer resume from a data engineer resume?
Analytics engineers work in the warehouse: SQL models, tests, metric definitions and documentation for business users. Data engineers build ingestion and the platform underneath. If you do some of both, give each its own bullets.
How do I show an internal move from analyst to analytics engineer?
List the company once with two dated titles under it, newest first. Make the analyst bullets point toward the move, such as the first dbt models you wrote.
Is the dbt certification worth getting?
It is a useful signal when your title does not yet say analytics engineer. dbt Labs suggests at least six months of dbt experience before sitting it, so it supports experience rather than replacing it.
Should dashboards appear on an analytics engineer resume?
One line is fine, ideally about a dashboard that now reads from models you built. More than that pulls the page back toward an analyst role.
How much Python does an analytics engineer need to show?
Many roles need little: SQL and dbt do most of the work. List Python at the level you use it, such as scripting or a small package, rather than leaving it off or overstating it.
Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
