Architect resume template
Short answer
Daniel suits an architect: rounded grey heading pills give the page a designed feel without colour, and the skills grid above the jobs shows documentation, code and software strengths at a glance. The fictional sample is a licensed project architect leading a $62M middle school from schematic design to construction administration, with a portfolio link in the header and the license stated in the headline.

Why Daniel suits an architect resume
Daniel is the template Resumity suggests for designers: headings in rounded grey pills give a considered look while the page stays one plain column. It prints skills above experience in a three-column grid, which fits short phases and tools (construction documents, code analysis, Revit, Enscape), and a projects section before education for signature buildings.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie prints experience before skills with one blue accent; choose it at a large firm where the project history should lead.
What goes in each section, in Daniel's order
Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. License status, years, building types and the phases you lead. "Licensed architect, nine years in K-12 and civic work, project architect from schematic design through construction administration" places you in one line.
- Skills. Phases and responsibilities (construction documents, code analysis, specifications, construction administration), then software. Daniel's grid has no labels, so lead with the work you are hired for, not the software.
- Work Experience. Project types and construction values, team size you lead, and what you own: the code analysis, the drawing set, owner meetings, RFIs. One bullet on construction administration shows you have seen a building through.
- Projects. Two or three signature projects with type, size, value, phase and your role. The portfolio link carries the images; these lines make sure a reader knows which pages to open.
- Education. Professional degree (B.Arch or M.Arch) with school and year; NCARB lists education, experience through the AXP and passing the ARE as the steps to licensure, so a reader checks this line.
- Certifications. License with state and year, and the NCARB Certificate if you hold one. Unlicensed designers can list AXP hours completed and ARE divisions passed instead.

How to make the sample yours
Put your license or progress in the headline
Write "Licensed Architect (Oregon)" or, if you are on the path, "Architectural Designer, 4 of 6 ARE divisions passed". Firms filter on it.
Replace the project list with your own
Pick the projects closest to the firm's work: a school firm wants schools. Give type, size, value, phase and your role for each.
Make the portfolio link easy to find
Put it in the header links. Keep the portfolio to eight to twelve projects and credit the firm and team on each.
Name the phases you have led
Many designers have deep construction document experience and little construction administration, or the reverse. Say which you have led and which you supported.
Match the software to the office
Revit is common, but some offices work in ArchiCAD or Rhino. List the ones you are fluent in and drop the rest.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid
- Calling yourself an architect in the headline before your state has licensed you.
- A portfolio that shows team projects as your own work without crediting the firm.
- Listing render software above construction documents when the job is technical.
- Leaving out construction values and building sizes.

Frequently asked questions
What title should I use before I am licensed?
The one your firm gave you (designer, architectural designer, job captain), and show progress toward licensure: AXP hours and ARE divisions passed. NCARB describes licensure as education, experience through the AXP and passing the ARE.
Should an architect resume include images?
Keep the resume itself to text and put images in a linked portfolio. Use the projects section to point to the portfolio pages that matter most for this firm.
How do I show my role on team projects?
State it in each project line: project architect, designer for construction documents, construction administration lead. Credit the firm in the portfolio as well.
Which software should an architect list?
The documentation tool you are fluent in (Revit, ArchiCAD), then visualisation and markup tools. Postings name the main one; match it if you use it.
How long should an architect resume be?
One page for designers, two for licensed architects with a project list. The portfolio carries the rest.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
