Cloud engineer resume template

Short answer

Leslie works well for a cloud engineer because it prints experience straight after the summary and before skills, so landing zones and migrations come ahead of a long list of services. The fictional sample ran servers for five years before three years at a Vancouver cloud consultancy, building Azure landing zones and moving 120 virtual machines, with the Azure and AWS certifications named in the summary.

Why Leslie suits a cloud engineer resume

Leslie puts work experience directly under the summary and ahead of skills. Cloud skill lists look much alike from one candidate to the next (the same provider's compute, network and identity services), so the migrations and environments you built are what set you apart, and the centred blue header is the page's only colour.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints skills above experience with no colour at all; choose it when the posting is a checklist of services and tools you want matched before anything else.

Leslie template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Leslie's order

Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Name the provider you work in most, for how long, and what you build: landing zones, migrations, platform services. Leslie prints certifications at the bottom, so put the one the posting asks for in the summary, as the sample does with the Azure Administrator Associate.
  2. Work Experience. Give scope a cloud lead can size: how many subscriptions, workloads or virtual machines, which network pattern, how each cutover was protected. Then one bullet on cost and one on access control, the two areas most cloud reviews dig into.
  3. Skills. Leslie shows labelled rows with a dot after each label. List services by provider in Technical, such as "Azure (VNets, App Service, Azure Files)", so a reader sees your depth in each cloud; keep IaC languages, CLIs and migration tools in Tools.
  4. Education. Diploma or degree on one line. If you came to cloud from server administration, the earlier job shows the route and needs no apology here.
  5. Certifications. Use the full official names with the year. Microsoft role-based certifications expire unless renewed each year through a free online assessment, so keep yours current or leave the date off.

Hannah Brooks

Cloud Engineer, Azure and AWS

Vancouver, BC | hannah.brooks@example.com | (604) 555-0148 | linkedin.com/in/sample-hannah-brooks | github.com/sample-hannah-brooks

Cloud engineer with three years building and migrating Azure environments for mid-sized clients, after five years running on-premises Windows and VMware servers. Holds the Azure Administrator Associate and AWS Solutions Architect - Associate certifications. Works in Bicep and Terraform, and treats tagging, cost and access as part of the build.

Experience

Cloud Engineer, Northstream Cloud Partners, Vancouver, BC (02/2023 to Present)

  • Built Azure landing zones for six client organizations from Bicep templates: management groups, hub-and-spoke networking, Azure Policy and role assignments.
  • Led the move of 120 virtual machines from VMware to Azure for a distribution company in four weekend cutovers, each with a tested rollback plan.
  • Set budgets, a tagging policy and quarterly rightsizing reviews for client subscriptions; one retail client cut its monthly compute bill by about a quarter.
  • Replaced shared admin accounts with Microsoft Entra ID groups and Privileged Identity Management for just-in-time access.

Systems Administrator, Salish Ridge Logistics, Surrey, BC (08/2018 to 01/2023)

  • Ran 60 Windows Server virtual machines on VMware across two sites, including patching, backups and restore tests.
  • Moved file shares to Azure Files and email to Exchange Online, the company's first cloud workloads.
  • Wrote PowerShell scripts for new-starter accounts that cut setup from a day to about an hour.

Education

Diploma, Computer Systems Technology, Burrard Polytechnic Institute (06/2018)

Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft (2026)
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, Amazon Web Services (2025)

Skills

Azure (VNets, VMs, App Service, Azure Files), AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM), Hub-and-spoke networking, VPN and ExpressRoute, Entra ID and PIM, Cost management, Bicep, Terraform, PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure Migrate, Azure Monitor, Azure DevOps, Client workshops, Migration runbooks

How to make the sample yours

Lead with your main cloud

If AWS is where you work most, reverse the sample: AWS first in the summary and skills, with AWS Organizations, VPC design and IAM in the bullets. A second cloud can stay as a shorter line.

Count the migration in workloads

"120 virtual machines in four weekend cutovers, each with a rollback plan" is something a reader can picture. Hours worked or "large migration" is not.

Add a cost result you can defend

The sample cuts one client's compute bill by about a quarter through tagging, budgets and rightsizing. Use a percentage if the amount belongs to a client or employer.

Show how access was locked down

Shared admin accounts replaced, just-in-time access, policy that blocks public storage. Identity and access work is a large part of cloud security reviews; give it a bullet.

Strip client names from consultancy work

Describe clients by sector and size ("a distribution company with 120 servers") unless your firm allows names. The work still counts.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • high availability

Mistakes to avoid

  • Three clouds listed at equal depth when you have run production workloads in one.
  • Certification badges with no project behind them in the experience section.
  • Migration bullets that skip the cutover: how you moved, how long services were down, what the rollback was.
  • Dollar savings from a client bill you are not allowed to share.

Frequently asked questions

Should a cloud engineer resume focus on one provider?

Lead with the one you know best and make it obvious in the headline and summary. A second provider is a plus when you have built something real in it; a third listed for completeness rarely helps.

Where do cloud certifications go on this template?

Leslie prints certifications near the end, so also mention the one the posting asks for in your summary. In the certifications list, write the full name and the year, for example "Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate".

How do I move from system administrator to cloud engineer on paper?

Show the first cloud workloads you moved in your current job, as the sample does with Azure Files and Exchange Online. AWS suggests at least a year of hands-on design work before its Solutions Architect - Associate exam, so pair any certificate with real projects.

What is a landing zone, and should I mention it?

Microsoft describes an Azure landing zone as an architecture for governing, securing and scaling a multi-subscription Azure environment. If you designed or deployed one, name it; hiring managers at Microsoft partners search for the term.

How do I show cost savings without revealing client figures?

Use a percentage and the method: "cut monthly compute spend by about a quarter with rightsizing and reserved instances". The method is what an interviewer will ask about.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
