Social media manager resume template
Short answer
Daniel fits most social media managers: its grey heading pills give the page a designed feel without colour that competes with your content, and the platform list sits above the jobs. The fictional sample runs Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest for a direct-to-consumer skincare brand, built a creator program whose videos became the best paid ads, and reports social by orders rather than follower counts.

Why Daniel suits a social media manager resume
Daniel sets each heading inside a rounded light-grey pill and prints skills before work experience in a three-column grid, so the formats, platforms and schedulers you work in are read first. The page stays grey and black, so it never competes with the brand work you link to from the contact line.
Second choice: Olivia. Olivia's blue header band is louder and its skill rows keep their group labels; choose it if you want the page itself to look like a campaign asset.
What goes in each section, in Daniel's order
Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Two sentences. First, the kind of brands you have run social for (consumer, B2B, nonprofit, local business) and whether you work alone or alongside designers, an agency or a paid media team. Second, the business result you report on, because a manager is hired to connect posting to sales, sign-ups or donations.
- Skills. Daniel prints the three groups as unlabelled columns. Make the first column the work itself (short-form video, community management, paid social, creator partnerships), the second the platforms and schedulers, and the third two or three people skills such as briefing creators or clearing replies with legal.
- Work Experience. Name the platforms and audience size for each job, then give one bullet each to content, community, paid or creator work and reporting. A reply-time figure or a moderation guide you wrote shows community skill far better than an adjective does.
- Education. Communications, marketing, journalism or film on one line. A degree in an unrelated subject is fine here; the posts and the results carry this resume.

How to make the sample yours
Rename the platforms to match the audience
A B2B brand lives on LinkedIn and YouTube, a restaurant group on Instagram and its map listings, a games studio on Discord and TikTok. Change the headline, the skills columns and the bullets to the channels your next employer uses, and only the ones you have actually run.
Replace reach with the number the business watched
Orders from social traffic, newsletter sign-ups, event tickets, store visits, job applications. If engagement is all you have, give an engagement rate with a time frame and a starting point, never a lone follower count.
State your budget and who you directed
The sample spends about $18,000 a month on paid social and works with 40 creators. A solo manager posting organically and one directing an agency are hired for different jobs, so say which you are.
Show one moment of judgement
A complaint thread, a rumour, a post that misfired. One bullet on how you responded, who you involved and how the conversation settled tells a hiring manager you can hold the brand voice when it counts.
For a specialist title, tilt toward production
If the posting says social media specialist or coordinator, move filming, editing, scheduling and daily replies to the top of each job and trim the strategy language. The sample's agency job shows that hands-on level.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

- community management
- short-form video
- TikTok
- paid social
- creator partnerships
- influencer marketing
- social listening
- Sprout Social

Mistakes to avoid
- A follower count with no starting point or time frame. Growing an account from 2,000 to 20,000 in a year means something; "20K followers" on its own does not.
- Taking credit for a viral post without saying what you did: wrote it, filmed it, spotted the trend or put paid budget behind it.
- Listing every platform you hold an account on. An interviewer can ask about each one.
- Writing "managed all social media channels" with no brand, audience size or posting rhythm.
- Linking brand accounts that were redesigned after you left without saying which period was yours.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
Should I link the brand accounts I ran?
Yes, if they are public, but accounts change after you leave. Add a short portfolio (a PDF or a simple web page) with screenshots of your best posts, the date range and the result each one drove, and put that link next to LinkedIn in the contact line.
How do I show results if my employer only tracked likes and followers?
Use what you have honestly: engagement rate over a stated period, growth from a named starting number, saves and shares as a sign of content quality, reply time for community work. In your next role, set up a business measure such as tagged links to the website.
Is a social media specialist resume different from a manager resume?
The evidence shifts. Specialists and coordinators are judged on production and daily community work: posts made, videos edited, replies handled. Managers add the plan, the budget, the creators or agencies they direct and the link to revenue. Keep the structure and change which bullets lead.
Should I mention a crisis I handled if it embarrassed the brand?
Describe it without blame or private detail: what happened in general terms, who you brought in (legal, customer care, leadership), how fast you responded and how things settled. Employers value calm handling more than a spotless record.
Do I need paid social experience for a social media manager job?
Many postings now expect some, often boosting posts or running creator videos as ads. If yours is limited, say what you did and the budget size; a small, measured test is better than leaving paid work off the page.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
