Why Olivia suits a fintech resume

Olivia's full-width blue header band is the boldest look of the seven, a fair match for companies that present themselves as modern alternatives to banks, and the page stands out at first glance on screen. Under the band it is a plain single column with labelled skill rows ahead of the jobs, so compliance vocabulary and data tools sit together near the top.

Second choice: Leslie. Leslie keeps a single touch of blue without a solid band and puts experience before skills, a quieter choice for bank-owned fintechs.

Olivia template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Olivia's order

Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Say what moves through your company (card payments, lending, payroll, crypto, remittances) and which part of the risk you own: onboarding, transactions, disputes or compliance. Fintech mixes two cultures, so one clause on your regulated or your product background tells the reader which half you bring.
  2. Skills. Pair compliance vocabulary (KYC, KYB, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening) with the data skills that let it scale (SQL, Python), and name your case management and BI tools under Tools. Fintech screens look for both halves in one person.
  3. Work Experience. Use the units fintech reports in: fraud losses in basis points of volume, approval or conversion rates, time to onboard, chargeback rate, false positive rate. Each bullet should show you protected the company without choking growth, because that trade-off is the job.
  4. Education. Finance, economics, criminal justice and computer science are all common. One line; regulated experience and data skills count for more here.

Andre Batista

Fraud and Risk Analyst, Payments

Atlanta, GA | andre.batista@example.com | (404) 555-0167 | linkedin.com/in/sample-andre-batista

Fraud and risk analyst at a card and ACH payments company, writing the rules and reviews that decide which merchants onboard and which transactions stop. Four years in bank fraud operations before that, so KYC, case investigation and suspicious activity reporting come with the product work.

Experience

Fraud and Risk Analyst, Ferrylane Payments, Atlanta, GA (04/2023 to Present)

  • Write and tune transaction monitoring rules in SQL for about 6,000 small business merchants; fraud losses fell from 9 to 5 basis points of processed volume over 18 months.
  • Rebuilt merchant onboarding review with the product team, adding automated business verification; median approval time fell from two days to four hours with no rise in early losses.
  • Investigate escalated cases and draft suspicious activity report narratives for the BSA officer to review and file.
  • Lowered chargebacks in the highest-risk merchant segment by holding payouts until delivery was confirmed.
  • Prepare evidence for the partner bank's quarterly compliance review, including sanctions screening logs and alert decisions.

Fraud Operations Specialist, Peachtree Federal Bank, Atlanta, GA (06/2019 to 03/2023)

  • Reviewed about 70 debit card and ACH fraud alerts a day and resolved customer disputes within the bank's deadlines.

  • Trained six new specialists on the case management system and wrote the team's alert decision guide.

How to make the sample yours

Show speed and control together

Pair every control you added with its effect on good customers: approvals faster, fewer legitimate users blocked, a manual queue shortened. Fintech hiring managers are wary of risk people who only know how to say no.

Name the rules you worked under, accurately

FinCEN counts money transmitters as money services businesses with no minimum activity threshold, and most must register with it; card data falls under PCI DSS, the payment card industry's security standard. Mention these where you did the work (screening, evidence, scoping), not as decoration.

Explain any partner bank work

If your company offers accounts or cards through a partner bank, mention the evidence you prepared, the reviews you supported or the escalations you handled with it. It shows you understand who holds the license and what they expect.

Translate bank or tech experience

From a bank, lead with investigations and the volume you handled, then any SQL or automation. From a tech company, lead with product and data work, then any compliance training or audit support.

Change the product line

For lending, swap fraud losses for default rates, approval rates and adverse action notices; for crypto, add blockchain analytics and travel rule work; for payroll, focus on payment timing and tax filing accuracy.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Describing compliance work only in bank jargon. Give the product effect too: approvals, losses, time.
  • Publishing fraud rule thresholds or detection logic. Describe the type of rule and what it achieved.
  • Calling yourself a compliance officer or BSA officer when you supported one. Titles carry legal weight in regulated firms.
  • Forgetting that Olivia's header band prints as a solid block of colour; if an employer wants paper copies, Leslie is the quieter pick.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move from a traditional bank to a fintech company?

Lead with what banks teach well (investigations, regulatory reporting, audit evidence), then add proof you work comfortably with data and product teams: SQL, an automated report, a process you redesigned. Startups want people who know the rules and can move quickly inside them.

Do I need a finance degree to work in fintech?

No. Engineering, product, design, operations, risk and compliance roles all exist, and degree subjects vary widely. Fluency in the product (payments, lending, investing) and the rules around it matters more.

Which fintech metrics belong on a resume?

The numbers your team reports: fraud losses in basis points, approval and conversion rates, onboarding time, chargeback rate, payment success rate or volume processed. Round them if they are sensitive.

Can I mention suspicious activity report work?

In general terms, yes: say you investigated cases and drafted narratives. Never refer to a specific report, customer or filing; FinCEN prohibits disclosing a SAR or information that would reveal one exists.

Is PCI DSS experience useful outside payments companies?

Yes. Merchants, processors, issuers and service providers that handle cardholder data all deal with it. The PCI Security Standards Council describes PCI DSS as a baseline of technical and operational requirements to protect payment account data.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
