Bank job resume format for freshers
There are two very different ways into banking as a fresher. Public sector bank jobs through IBPS and SBI are won in exams: you fill an application form, and no resume is read.
Private banks, small finance banks and NBFCs hire freshers for sales, operations and customer service roles the usual way, from resumes sent through campus drives, career sites and job portals. This guide covers both, with a sample resume for the second route.
Public sector banks: exams and forms
- IBPS Probationary Officers / Management Trainees. The 2026 notification (CRP PO/MTs-XVI) describes an online preliminary exam, an online main exam, a personality test and a common interview conducted by the participating banks, followed by provisional allotment. The qualification is a degree in any discipline.
- Other IBPS processes. IBPS also runs common recruitment for Customer Service Associates (the clerical cadre), regional rural banks and specialist officers, each with its own notification on ibps.in.
- SBI. State Bank of India recruits Probationary Officers and Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) through its own exams; its current openings page lists the 2026-27 PO main exam and Junior Associates preliminary exam call letters.
What decides these applications is the form, not a resume. The IBPS form asks for your graduation percentage to two decimals (with CGPA converted as per your university’s norms) and uploads of a photograph, signature, left thumb impression, the Class X certificate and a hand-written declaration in English that must not be in capital letters. Get those exactly right.
Resumes do come back for specialist posts: SBI’s specialist cadre officer advertisements, which are for experienced professionals, ask for a detailed resume. See the government job resume guide.
Private banks and NBFCs: what fresher roles look for
Typical fresher roles are relationship officer or sales, branch operations, customer service, collections, phone banking and credit or underwriting trainee. Show the things those jobs use every day:
- Comfort with numbers: commerce or economics subjects, accounting software, Excel, and any work with reconciliations or invoices.
- Customer-facing experience: retail or sales jobs, fest sponsorship drives, NSS or NGO work with self-help groups. Say what you did and, if you counted it, how much.
- Languages: list every language you speak. Branch and field roles often need the local language.
- Where you can work: one line saying which cities or states you can move to.
- Relevant certificates: for example an NISM certification for wealth and mutual fund sales roles, or Tally for operations.

Mistakes on bank fresher resumes
- An objective about clearing bank exams on a resume sent to a private bank’s sales or operations role.
- “Banking awareness” or “good communication” as skills, with nothing to back them up.
- Sales or sponsorship experience with no numbers you actually know.
- Photo, date of birth and father’s name filling the top third of the page.
