Resume template for a weekend job
Short answer
Leslie works for a weekend job because it prints experience straight after the summary, so your weekend shifts and your weekday job both appear early and their dates show the two already fit together. The fictional sample is a school paraprofessional applying for weekend banquet server work, with exact weekend hours, three years of event shifts and current alcohol and food safety certificates.

Why Leslie suits a weekend job resume
Leslie prints work experience directly after the summary and before skills, so a banquet captain sees the weekend event record and the weekday job side by side, with overlapping dates that prove you have held both for years. The blue header and short blue underlines add polish without crowding a one-page hospitality resume.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian puts skills above experience and uses no colour; choose it for a first weekend job, when service skills and certificates are your main selling point.
What goes in each section, in Leslie's order
Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Spell out the weekend window: which evenings, which days, how late you can finish and whether holiday weekends are open. Then name the weekday job, so the reader knows why Monday to Friday is not on offer.
- Work Experience. Write "(weekends)" in the weekend job's title and give the weekday job its hours. Overlapping dates are a strength here: they show you have kept both going without dropping either.
- Skills. Keep to tasks you can do on your first weekend: service styles, room setup, the till system. A long list of weekday-job skills pulls attention away from the role.
- Education. One line. Weekend employers rarely screen on education, so a course only earns detail if it links to hospitality or the weekday job.
- Certifications. Alcohol service and food handler certificates print near the end. If the venue needs them, name them in the summary as well, with the year issued.

How to make the sample yours
Give your weekend window to the hour
"Fridays from 5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays any time" beats "weekends". Add any weekend you already know you cannot work, such as a standing family commitment once a month.
Show the weekday job cannot clash
Put your weekday hours in that job's title line. A manager scheduling Friday evening events wants to see you finish work in time to get there.
Lead with your biggest event
Weddings, festivals, match days and sale weekends all test stamina. One bullet on the largest event or busiest day you worked carries more than a list of tasks.
Check certificate dates before applying
Look at the expiry on any alcohol or food handler card and write the year it was issued. An expired card is better left off than discovered later.
Switch the event work for retail or care
Weekend shop, garden center or caregiving jobs follow the same layout: weekend hours, the weekday job for context, and tasks you can take on from the first shift.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- weekend availability
- banquet server
- event setup
- plated service
- buffet service
- beer and wine service
- TIPS certified
- ServSafe Food Handler
- point of sale
- teamwork
- late finishes
- customer service
- holiday weekends
Mistakes to avoid
- Hiding your weekday job. A weekend manager wants to know about your other commitment, and one discovered later makes your availability look less trustworthy.
- Offering "every weekend" if that is not true. Venues book staff weeks ahead and remember who pulled out.
- Long bullets about the weekday job that have nothing to do with the weekend role. Three short lines are enough.
- Leaving out how late you can stay. Many events run past midnight, and the scheduler needs to know before putting you on a wedding.

Frequently asked questions
What should I put on a resume for weekend work?
Your weekend availability, any weekend or shift work you have done, your weekday job for context, the skills you can use on the first shift and any certificate the job needs.
Should I mention my full-time job on a weekend job resume?
Yes. It explains why you are only free on weekends and shows you are dependable. Keep its bullets short.
How do I show I can manage a weekday job and a weekend job?
Overlapping dates on the two entries make the point. A bullet about years of weekend events while holding the weekday role does the rest.
Is a weekend job resume different from a part-time one?
It is narrower. A part-time resume can offer several shift patterns; a weekend one is exact about two or three days and late finishes, and it explains the weekday commitment.
Can a student use this layout for weekend work?
Yes. Replace the weekday job with your school or college and class times, and keep the weekend hours in the summary.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
