MBA fresher resume: the one-page B-school format

Indian B-schools have a house style for placement resumes: strictly one page, dense bullets, academic scores at the top and the summer internship as the centrepiece. Recruiters at final placements compare many of these side by side, so the format rewards precision. This guide walks through each section for a fresher with no full-time work experience, shows how to write the bullets and gives a sample.

The B-school one-pager, section by section

SectionWhat goes in it
HeaderName, programme and batch (MBA 2025–27), specialisation, phone and email.
EducationMBA with CGPA so far and the terms it covers, then graduation, Class XII and Class X, each with institute, year and score. Add an entrance exam percentile only if your institute’s template has a place for it.
Summer internshipThe centrepiece for a fresher: company, dates, and three or four bullets on what you found, recommended or built.
Live projects and experienceLive projects with companies, and internships from your graduation years.
Positions of responsibilityClubs, committees and student roles, with what you ran or delivered.
Achievements and certificationsCase competitions, scholarships, ranks and certifications relevant to your specialisation.
SkillsTools you can use on day one, and languages.

Many institutes give students a fixed template. If yours does, the template wins; use this page for what to write in it.

How to write MBA bullets

Each bullet: an action verb, what you did, how big it was, and what came of it.

  • Weak: “Worked on market research for a beverage brand.”
  • Better: “Surveyed 120 retailers across four Pune markets on chiller placement and stock-outs; presented the findings to the regional sales manager.”
  • Weak: “Responsible for social media analysis.”
  • Better: “Compared a month of Instagram and Google Business Profile results for three outlets and proposed a posting calendar the owner adopted.”

Never invent a number to make a bullet look like the others. If you do not know the outcome, describe the scope (how many outlets, how many weeks) and stop there. Interviewers ask how you got every figure.

If you have no work experience

  • Let the summer internship and live projects fill the space work experience would take.
  • Pull in internships and part-time work from your graduation years.
  • Tailor the tools and bullets to your specialisation: consumer research and campaign data for marketing, Excel models and valuation for finance, hiring and policy work for HR, process and inventory for operations, SQL or Power BI for analytics.
  • Keep it consistent with your LinkedIn profile; recruiters check both.

Questions

Should MBA freshers include Class X and XII marks?

Yes. Indian B-school resumes usually show the full academic record, and many recruiters set minimum marks across Class X, Class XII, graduation and the MBA.

Is one page compulsory?

For a fresher, almost always. Placement committees and recruiters expect it, and a tight page shows you can prioritise.

Do I need a separate resume for each company?

Keep one master resume per specialisation and adjust the summary line, bullet order and skills for each role. Many institutes allow only small changes between drives, so check your committee’s rules.
