Resume template for recent graduates
Short answer
Henrietta fits a recent graduate because it prints your degree immediately after your internship and part-time work, instead of below a long skills list. The sample is a fictional economics graduate with one finance internship, three years of campus tutoring and a capstone project, aimed at junior analyst roles. Swap in your own degree, internship results and graduation date.

Why Henrietta suits a recent graduate resume
Henrietta is a conventional business layout that prints education straight after work experience. For a new graduate, that keeps the degree, GPA and coursework directly under the internship that shows you can use them, and its plain black and grey look suits analyst and business roles.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie also leads with experience and adds one touch of blue; choose it if your internships are stronger than your grades, since it prints skills before education.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Open with the degree and the month you graduated, then the one or two experiences an employer will care about most. End with the job title you are applying for so the reader does not have to guess.
- Work Experience. Internships first, then part-time jobs and campus roles, all most recent first. A graduate's bullets should show work handed to a real team: a report someone used, data someone relied on.
- Education. Degree, major, minor and graduation month. For the first year or two after graduating, a GPA of 3.5 or above, honors and three relevant courses can stay.
- Skills. Henrietta shows skills in a grid without the group labels, so put your analysis methods first and software second. Name the specific Excel features or languages the posting lists.
- Projects. A capstone, thesis or research project goes here with its data source and one finding. It shows independent work, which a ten-week internship may not.

How to make the sample yours
Make the graduation date impossible to miss
The sample summary gives "May 2026" in its first line. If you graduate next spring, write "graduating May 2027" there instead so a recruiter knows when you can start.
Lead each internship bullet with who used the result
Interns are often handed small tasks; the bullet should say what the task fed into. "Cleaned loan data so analysts could compare branches" beats "Responsible for data cleaning".
Decide how long the GPA stays
Keep it for your first job search if it helps. After a year of full-time work, remove the GPA and coursework and let the job carry the page.
Trim campus roles that do not support the target job
Tutoring statistics supports an analyst application. A dining hall job might not; keep it as a single line if it took up a large part of your week, so your time is accounted for.
Link a shareable piece of work
If your capstone produced a paper or dashboard you are allowed to share, add the link to the header so an interviewer can open it.

Mistakes to avoid
- Keeping high school details. Once you have a degree, the diploma, school clubs and high school GPA can go.
- Listing every course on your transcript. Three that match the job are enough.
- Calling an internship an analyst job. Keep the real title ("Intern"); the bullets show the level of the work.
- A summary about what you hope to learn instead of what you can already do.

Frequently asked questions
Should education go at the top of a recent graduate resume?
It should be easy to find, and your degree should also appear in the summary. Henrietta prints education right after experience; if you have no internships or jobs yet, it follows the summary directly.
How long can I call myself a recent graduate?
A year or two is a common rule of thumb, or until your first full-time job fills the page. After that, lead with the job and shorten the education entry.
Should I include my GPA as a new graduate?
List it if the posting asks for one or if it is strong (3.5 or higher is a common cutoff). If it is lower, leave it off and let coursework and projects speak.
Can a recent graduate resume be two pages?
Rarely worth it. One page holds a degree, two or three internships or jobs, a project and skills; a second page usually means bullets that need cutting.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
