Solutions consultant resume template

Short answer

Olivia suits a solutions consultant, whose job is presenting well to buyers: its full-width blue header band makes the page look finished on screen, and skills print before experience so your process knowledge is read early. The fictional sample is a presales consultant for a cloud finance system who spent four years implementing similar software first. The same page answers presales consultant searches.

Why Olivia suits a solutions consultant resume

Olivia's solid blue header band makes the page stand out on screen, which suits a client-facing presales role where polish is part of the job. It prints the summary and skills before experience, so process knowledge (record-to-report, order-to-cash) and demo skills come before the employer list. Resumity labels it Balanced rather than Strict ATS because of the colour band.

Second choice: Leslie. Leslie is the quieter option: one touch of blue and experience before skills, for firms where a bold header would feel out of place.

What goes in each section, in Olivia's order

Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Name the product category, the buyers you present to (CFOs, controllers, IT directors) and the background that makes you credible with them: implementation, accounting or operations work. Presales hiring managers want to know which side of the customer's business you understand.
  2. Skills. Business processes you can demo end to end first, then presales methods (discovery, value engineering, RFP writing), then tools. Olivia prints labelled rows, so the process row stands on its own where a reader looks first.
  3. Work Experience. Connect each activity to a deal stage: discovery that reshaped a demo, a business case a CFO took to the board, an RFP answer library that shortened responses. Quote a win rate only for evaluations where you were the assigned consultant.
  4. Education. An accounting, finance, engineering or business degree supports the story. One line with the year.
  5. Selected evaluations. "Selected evaluations" turns deals into short case notes: buyer industry and size, what they were replacing, and the outcome. Keep every buyer anonymous.

Julia Ferreira

Solutions Consultant, Cloud Finance Software

Atlanta, GA | julia.ferreira@example.com | (404) 555-0127 | linkedin.com/in/sample-julia-ferreira

Presales solutions consultant for a cloud finance system sold to mid-size companies, presenting to CFOs, controllers and IT leads. Spent four years implementing finance software before moving to presales, so demos follow the month-end close and approval flows buyers actually run.

Experience

Solutions Consultant, Ledgerwise Cloud, Atlanta, GA (02/2023 to Present)

  • Lead discovery workshops with finance teams at companies of 200 to 2,000 employees, mapping their close, payables and revenue processes before any demo.
  • Deliver scripted demos built from each buyer's own process map; won 11 of 19 competitive evaluations where I was the assigned consultant in 2025.
  • Build ROI models with buyers' controllers on days to close and manual journal entries; two were used in board approval packs.
  • Created an RFP answer library of 300 reviewed responses with the security and product teams, cutting typical response time from two weeks to five working days.

Senior Implementation Consultant, Harborview Advisory Group, Atlanta, GA (01/2019 to 01/2023)

  • Implemented cloud finance and ERP systems for 14 clients in distribution, nonprofit and professional services.
  • Configured general ledger, payables approval workflows and consolidation for multi-entity clients.
  • Ran user acceptance testing and go-live training for finance teams of up to 40 people.

Selected evaluations

  • 1,200-employee food distributor replacing an on-premise system: demo built around their 12-day close; signed after a three-month evaluation.
  • National nonprofit with 30 grant-funded programs: designed a fund accounting demo and answered a 240-question RFP.
  • Regional engineering firm: business case on project billing accuracy that the CFO presented to the board.

Education

BBA, Accounting, Peachtree Valley University (05/2018)

Skills

Record-to-report, Procure-to-pay, Order-to-cash, Multi-entity consolidation, Discovery workshops, ROI modeling, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Loopio, Excel, Executive presentations, Storytelling with data, Finding the real requirement

How to make the sample yours

Swap in your process vocabulary

The sample sells finance software, so it says record-to-report and procure-to-pay. A CRM consultant would write lead-to-cash; a supply chain consultant would write plan-to-produce. Use the terms your buyers use.

Tie each business case to a buyer's number

If you built ROI models, say what they measured (days to close the books, manual journal entries, systems retired) rather than writing "built business cases".

Describe how you demo

Scripted demos, day-in-the-life demos, an industry dataset you built: one bullet on your demo approach tells a hiring manager how you will fit their team.

Anonymize every evaluation

Write "a 1,200-employee food distributor replacing an on-premise system" rather than the company name, even if the deal was announced.

Shorten the implementation years

Keep two or three bullets that show you configured and delivered the software; the presales job should take most of the space.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • ERP
  • stakeholder management
  • Salesforce

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing every module of the product as a skill. Show the processes you can demo and defend, not the price list.
  • Taking credit for the team's overall win rate when you supported only some of the deals.
  • Feature-tour wording ("demonstrated platform capabilities") instead of the buyer problem each demo answered.
  • Cutting the implementation history that makes you credible; buyers trust a consultant who has delivered the software.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a solutions consultant and a sales engineer?

Both support sales with expertise, but the emphasis differs. Solutions consultants usually lead with business process knowledge and demos for business buyers; sales engineers lead with integrations, APIs and security for technical buyers. Many teams blend the two, so read the posting and lead with the side it stresses.

How do I show deals I helped win without inflating them?

Count only evaluations where you were the assigned consultant, and say so ("11 of 19 competitive evaluations I supported"). Describe each deal by industry and size, and leave the final contract value to the account executive.

Can an implementation consultant move into presales?

Yes, and it is a well-worn path. Show moments where you explained the product to people who had not bought it yet: scoping calls, sales handoffs, demos for new stakeholders. Keep your implementation bullets as proof you know how the software behaves after the sale.

Should I name the software I demo?

Name the products you configured or demoed in the tools row, because hiring managers search for them. Leave out internal tool names unless the posting uses them.

How long should a presales resume be?

One page under about eight years; two if you have both a long implementation history and several presales roles. If space runs short, drop the evaluations list and keep those stories for the interview.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
