Tutor resume template

Short answer

Daniel suits a tutor: its headings sit in soft grey pills, and its skills grid prints subjects and levels before the jobs, so a learning center or a parent sees what you teach at a glance. The fictional sample tutors algebra through calculus and SAT math, part-time at a learning center and with private students, and lists two study resources she made. Swap in your subjects, levels and weekly sessions.

Why Daniel suits a tutor resume

Daniel prints skills above work experience in a three-column grid without labels, a neat way to list subjects and levels (Algebra 2, AP Calculus AB, SAT Math). Its rounded grey heading pills look friendlier than a page of rules, which suits a resume that parents may read as well as a center director.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian also puts skills first, with labelled rows and no shading; choose it for district or university tutoring programs that expect a plainer page.

Daniel template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Daniel's order

Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Subjects, levels and formats in the first line: "math tutor for grades 8 to 12 and SAT, in person and online". Then the load you carry (sessions a week or active students) and how you track progress.
  2. Skills. List each subject and exam as its own skill, the way a parent would search. Daniel's grid drops the group labels, so subjects go in the first group, then methods, then the tools (Zoom, Desmos, a shared whiteboard).
  3. Work Experience. Give the number of students or weekly sessions, the subjects, and one result per job you can back up: a grade change a student reported, families who stayed for another term, a tutor you trained. Private tutoring is a job; list it with dates.
  4. Projects. Study guides, worksheets or short videos you made show you can explain a topic without being in the room. Name the topic, the format and who used it.
  5. Education. Degree or current program, with the major if it matches your subjects. Your own score on a test you tutor can go here too, once.

Math tutor for grades 8 to 12 and SAT math, with four years of one-on-one and small-group sessions in person and online. Carries about 18 sessions a week, writes a short progress note after each one and keeps most families from one semester to the next.

Experience

  • Tutor 10 to 12 students a week in algebra, geometry and precalculus, one-on-one and in groups of three.
  • Write a progress note after every session for the center director and the family, flagging topics to review next time.
  • Drafted the six-week outline the center now uses for its SAT math group class.
  • Trained two new tutors on the center's diagnostic test and session format.

Private Tutor, Self-employed, Austin, TX (06/2022 to Present)

  • Work with six to eight high school students a semester, mostly AP Calculus AB and SAT math, online and at local libraries.
  • Start each student with a diagnostic session and a written plan, reviewed with parents once a month.
  • Most families continue for more than one semester, and nearly all new students come by referral.

  • Used by about 30 students at the learning center in 2025.

Limits in Five Videos: Five short screen recordings explaining limits with graphs built in Desmos.

  • Shared with private calculus students as homework review.

How to make the sample yours

Write subjects the way families search

Use course names (Algebra 2, AP Chemistry, IB Math, GCSE English) rather than "STEM tutoring" or "all subjects". Keep only the ones you have actually tutored.

Report results students told you

Score and grade changes depend on the student. Quote the ones reported to you, without names, and skip averages you cannot check.

Count your sessions

Weekly sessions, total hours or active students, whichever you track. "About 18 sessions a week" tells a center you can carry a full schedule.

Show your online setup

If you tutor remotely, name the video platform and the tools you teach with, so an online tutoring company sees you can run a session without help.

Keep the referral line if it is true

Families staying with you for several terms, and new students arriving by word of mouth, are the clearest evidence a tutor has. Replace the sample's line with your own version or cut it.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Promising score jumps; describe what students reported, not results you cannot vouch for.
  • Listing every school subject you could teach in theory instead of the ones you have tutored.
  • Leaving private tutoring off because it was informal; it is real experience with dates and hours.
  • Naming students or their schools in an example.

Frequently asked questions

How do I list private tutoring on a resume?

As a job: "Private Tutor, Self-employed", with dates, the subjects and the number of students or weekly sessions. If you booked through a tutoring platform, name it in the company line instead.

Should a tutor resume include my own test scores?

Your own score can help when you tutor that test and the score is strong; put it once under education. Student score gains belong in bullets only when students reported them to you, and without names.

Can a tutor resume get me a teaching job?

It is a good start. Teaching posts also look for a license and classroom management, so add student teaching or classroom volunteering, and see the teacher template for how those pages are built.

How do I write a tutor resume as a high school or college student?

Peer tutoring, homework clubs and helping younger students all count when you describe them plainly: subject, how often, how many students. Your own grades in those subjects can sit under education.

How long should a tutor resume be?

One page. Most tutors have one or two tutoring jobs, a few study resources and an education line, which fit with room to spare.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
