WordPress developer resume template
Short answer
Daniel suits many WordPress developers: its unlabelled skills grid prints right after the summary, so PHP, block development and WooCommerce lead, and the grey pill headings give a designed feel without distracting. The fictional sample builds custom block themes and plugins at an agency, upgraded 35 sites to PHP 8.3 and maintains a free block plugin, after starting out on classic themes.

Why Daniel suits a WordPress developer resume
Daniel prints skills in a three-column grid straight after the summary, then experience, with headings set in rounded grey pills. An agency WordPress developer works between designers and clients, and the softer page suits both readers, while PHP, block development and WooCommerce still come before the job history.
Second choice: FAANGPath. FAANGPath puts labelled skill rows above the jobs in a stricter centred layout; better for plugin or platform roles at product companies.
What goes in each section, in Daniel's order
Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. What you build (block themes, classic themes, plugins, WooCommerce stores, headless front ends), who for (agency clients, an in-house marketing team, a plugin business) and one strength such as performance, accessibility or long-term maintenance.
- Skills. Daniel prints the three skill groups as unlabelled columns, so the first should hold core development: PHP, block themes and theme.json, custom blocks, plugin development. Tools such as WP-CLI and ACF go second; client-facing skills third.
- Work Experience. Sites built, plugins written, sites maintained, and results a client feels: load time, uptime, editing time saved, store sales after a rebuild. Say whether you built with blocks, a page builder or classic templates.
- Projects. A public plugin, a starter theme or a contribution to core or a well-used plugin. Give active installs, downloads or the merged change.
- Education. Degree, associate degree, bootcamp or self-taught with a portfolio; one line is enough.

How to make the sample yours
Say how you build
Block themes and custom blocks, a page builder, or classic PHP templates with custom fields. Agencies and in-house teams differ on this, so name your main approach in the first job.
Show maintenance and upgrades
WordPress recommends hosts run PHP 8.3 or newer and MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.11 or newer. If you moved client sites up to those versions and fixed what broke, count the sites.
Measure speed
Page weight, Largest Contentful Paint, plugins removed, caching set up. A before and after figure for one important client page is enough.
Separate code you wrote from plugins you installed
Write "built" for custom plugins and blocks, and "configured" for third-party plugins. Reviewers check the difference in a technical interview.
Mention accessibility and security
Audit fixes, keyboard and screen reader testing, update and backup routines, staging before release. Clients ask about both, so give each a bullet.

How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 5 of 5 | 10 of 10 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 5 of 5 | 10 of 10 |
| pypdf 6.13.0 | All found | 5 of 5 | 10 of 10 |
Frequently asked questions
Should I list page builders like Elementor or Divi?
List them if the posting does or if clients you would serve use them. For development roles, lead with custom code (blocks, plugins, themes) and put builders in the tools column.
Which PHP and database versions should my resume mention?
The ones you have upgraded sites to. WordPress recommends PHP 8.3 or greater, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.11 or greater, and HTTPS; it still runs on PHP 7.4, which has reached end of life. "Upgraded 35 sites to PHP 8.3" shows maintenance skill clearly.
Is contributing to WordPress worth listing?
Yes. A merged core change, a plugin in the directory with real installs, or translations and support work show code that others reviewed and rely on. Link the plugin page or the change.
How do I present freelance WordPress work?
As one job under your business name with counts: sites built, retainers held, plugins written. Add two bullets with specific results and keep client names to those who agreed.
Do WordPress developers need React?
For custom blocks, yes: the block editor is built on React, and block development uses modern JavaScript. Theme and plugin work still centre on PHP, so list both if you use both.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 10 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.

- WordPress.org: Requirements (recommended: PHP 8.3 or greater, MariaDB 10.11 or greater or MySQL 8.0 or greater, HTTPS support; WordPress also works with PHP 7.4+ and MySQL 5.5.5+, but these have reached end of life and may expose sites to vulnerabilities)
