Aerospace resume template
Short answer
Henrietta suits aerospace engineering and production resumes: a sober black and grey page that prints education straight after experience, where aerospace employers look for the engineering degree. The fictional sample is a manufacturing engineer at a Tulsa aerostructures supplier who came from an automotive axle plant, with first article inspections, quality escapes cut, a Nadcap audit and a production rate increase.

Why Henrietta suits an aerospace resume
Henrietta is the conventional business layout, left-aligned and black and grey, with education printed directly after work experience. Aerospace primes and suppliers often screen on degree discipline (aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing, materials) almost as early as experience, and this order keeps the two side by side.
Second choice: FAANGPath. FAANGPath prints a skills block before the jobs, better when CAD, analysis or programming tools are the main selling point, as in stress or flight software roles.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Aerospace spans commercial aircraft, business jets, defence, space and the supplier tiers below them. Name your segment and products (aerostructures, engines, avionics, interiors, satellites), your function and the aircraft families you are allowed to mention publicly.
- Work Experience. The evidence here is quality and rate: first articles accepted, escapes and nonconformances reduced, rate increases supported, special processes controlled, audit findings closed, cost per shipset. Name the quality system element you improved, since aerospace production quality systems are organised around those elements.
- Education. Henrietta places this straight after the jobs. Give the degree discipline in full, and add a design-build team, co-op or capstone only if it is aerospace-related and recent.
- Skills. The grid shows no labels, so start with manufacturing and quality methods (first article inspection, GD&T, process planning, corrective action), then CAD/CAM and ERP tools, then the people skills that keep a shop floor moving.

Natalie Brooks
Manufacturing Engineer, Aerostructures
Tulsa, OK | natalie.brooks@example.com | (918) 555-0146 | linkedin.com/in/sample-natalie-brooks
Manufacturing engineer at a Tier 2 aerostructures supplier, writing process plans and supporting assembly of wing and fuselage components for business and commercial jets. Five years at an automotive axle plant first, bringing control plans and statistical process control into a low-volume, high-mix shop.
Experience
Manufacturing Engineer, Redbud Aerostructures, Tulsa, OK (05/2021 to Present)
- Write and maintain process plans for 140 machined and assembled parts on two business jet programmes and one commercial programme.
- Led first article inspections on 35 new and changed parts, with every report accepted by the customer on first submission.
- Cut quality escapes to the customer from nine in 2022 to two in 2024 with mistake-proofed drill fixtures and a revised buy-off sequence.
- Owned chemical processing line documentation through a Nadcap audit that closed with no repeat findings.
- Supported a rate increase from six to nine shipsets a month by rebalancing assembly stations and adding a second fixture set.
Process Engineer, Cimarron Axle Systems, Broken Arrow, OK (06/2016 to 04/2021)
- Ran SPC and control plans for an axle housing line building about 1,200 units a day.
- Prepared PPAP packages for 18 new parts for two vehicle makers.
- Reduced weld cell scrap by about 30% through fixture redesign and weld parameter studies.
Education
BS, Mechanical Engineering, Prairie Plains University (05/2016)
Skills
Process planning, First article inspection, GD&T, Root cause and corrective action, Statistical process control, Fixture design, CATIA V5, SolidWorks, SAP, Minitab, Shop floor coordination, Customer quality reviews, Training technicians
How to make the sample yours
Use the quality system's own words
FAA rules for production certificate holders (14 CFR 21.137) list the quality system elements, including supplier control, manufacturing process control, nonconforming product, corrective and preventive action and quality escapes. Bullets that use those terms tell a quality manager exactly where you have worked.
Name special processes and their audits
Nadcap, an industry-managed programme administered by PRI, accredits critical processes such as heat treating, nondestructive testing, welding and chemical processing for aerospace and defence suppliers. If you owned or supported one of those processes through an audit, say which one.
Translate from automotive
PPAP, control plans, SPC and customer audits map closely onto aerospace first articles, process control and supplier quality. Keep your numbers, swap the vocabulary, and stress any low-volume, high-mix work you have done.
Handle restricted programmes with care
Describe programmes at the level your employer allows: aircraft family, component type, your role. Leave out drawings, part numbers and technical data, especially on export-controlled or defence work.
Show rate as well as quality
Production lines in this industry often have to ramp up. A bullet on a rate increase you supported (shipsets a month, cycle time, tooling added) proves you can deliver volume without losing conformance.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- aerospace manufacturing
- aerostructures
- first article inspection
- AS9100
- GD&T
- process planning
- nonconformance management
- corrective action
- special processes
- Nadcap
- quality escapes
- CATIA
- lean manufacturing
- supplier quality
- rate readiness
Mistakes to avoid
- Part numbers, drawing details or customer data that is export-controlled or proprietary.
- Claiming "aerospace experience" with bullets that never mention a quality or rate result.
- CAD tools listed with nothing said about what you designed or planned in them.
- Dropping your automotive or industrial history; it explains where your process knowledge came from.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |

Frequently asked questions
How do I move into aerospace from automotive?
Lead with process control, quality tools and supplier work, then show you can handle heavier documentation and lower volumes. Use the aerospace terms you already practise (first article, nonconformance, corrective action) and mention any regulated industry experience.
Do I need a security clearance for aerospace jobs?
Only for some defence and space roles; commercial aircraft and many supplier jobs do not ask for one. If you hold a clearance, state its level and whether it is active, because the posting will.
Can I name aircraft programmes on my resume?
Usually at a general level ("business jet wing components"). Check your employer's policy before naming customers, and never include technical data.
What if all my aerospace work is in one narrow area?
Depth is valued. Show the range inside it: new parts versus sustaining work, internal and customer audits, different materials or processes. Then add a line on the wider skills you would bring to a broader role.
Is a master's degree needed for aerospace engineering roles?
Not for most manufacturing, quality or production roles, where experience and a relevant bachelor's carry the application. Analysis and research positions are more likely to ask for one.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
