Market research resume template
Short answer
FAANGPath fits market research because methods and software decide most shortlists, and its skills rows sit before the work history. The fictional sample is a research manager at a Cincinnati insights agency who started in a food brand's consumer insights team, with a segmentation that repositioned two product lines, a concept test that cut two ideas before launch, tighter survey data cleaning and brand tracker work.

Why FAANGPath suits a market research resume
FAANGPath prints centred, minimal labelled skill rows ahead of the jobs, and research hiring managers usually look for methods and tools first: conjoint, MaxDiff, segmentation, SPSS, R, Qualtrics. Its black and grey page also resembles the careful, unflashy reports the job produces.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian keeps skills above experience with grey rules beside each heading, a slightly softer page for qualitative researchers and insight managers.
What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order
FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Say whether you work agency side (full service, fieldwork, panel, data processing) or client side (brand or customer insights), whether you lean quantitative or qualitative, and the categories you know. A packaged goods tracker specialist and a B2B interviewer are hired for different briefs.
- Skills. Technical lists methods you can design and analyse yourself: questionnaire design, sampling and weighting, conjoint, MaxDiff, segmentation, driver analysis, in-depth interviews, focus groups. Tools lists survey platforms and analysis software. Label basic skills as basic.
- Work Experience. Research earns its keep when it changes a decision. For each study type give scale (sample size, markets, waves), your role (design, field management, analysis, reporting) and the business decision it fed: a launch, a price, a claim, a concept dropped.
- Education. Psychology, statistics, economics, sociology and marketing degrees are all common ways in. Early in your career, add methods courses or a thesis that involved a survey.

How to make the sample yours
Show you keep research separate from selling
The Insights Association code, which every member must follow, requires researchers to distinguish research from non-research activity such as advertising and direct marketing, and to obtain participants' consent. A line on panel quality or compliance work shows you know the trade's rules.
Applying in the UK
The MRS Code of Conduct, in its 2023 edition, applies to all MRS members and company partners. UK applicants can say they work to it, and anyone joining a UK agency should learn its language early.
Quant or qual: choose your lead
Quantitative researchers lead with designs, sample sizes and analysis methods; qualitative researchers lead with interviews moderated, audiences and the synthesis that changed a brief. Hybrid researchers can split the technical row between both.
Name your data quality steps
Attention checks, speeder rules, open-end review, deduplication, weighting. Clients worry about poor respondents in online samples, so cleaning rules you designed are worth a bullet.
Coming from analytics or UX research
Data analysts bring the statistics; UX researchers bring interviewing and synthesis. Reframe your projects as business questions answered for a brand, and learn the survey platforms agencies use.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get into market research without experience?
Show research you have already done: a thesis survey, a class project with real respondents, analysis in another job. Name the methods and software, and target research executive or junior analyst roles, the usual entry points.
Should I name clients from agency work?
Usually not. Describe the client's category and size and the decision the study supported. Some agencies allow named case studies; follow your contract.
Does an agency resume differ from a client-side one?
Agency resumes show volume, range and project control (studies, budgets, timelines). Client-side resumes show influence: decisions shaped, stakeholders served, agencies managed.
Do I need a statistics degree for quantitative research?
No, but you need to show the methods: weighting, significance testing, regression or segmentation work you have done. A course or certificate helps if your degree was in another field.
How do I show qualitative skills on a resume?
Count interviews and groups moderated, audiences, markets and the synthesis you delivered. Name the insight that changed a brief, a message or a product.
Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
