Dear [Hiring manager’s name],
I’m applying for the Sales Manager, Mid-Market role. Your job post says the team needs to grow new ARR in India and the Gulf while keeping the forecast honest. That is close to the job I have done for the past three years: I lead eight account executives selling customer support software to mid-market companies, and over the last three years we finished at 96%, 112% and 104% of annual quota.
Most of those results come from how the team is built and coached. I hired five of my eight account executives, and new hires now close their first deal in about 74 days on average. Every week I review call recordings with each rep; over four quarters our win rate on qualified opportunities moved from 21% to 27%.
You also mention forecasting. When I took over the team, our quarter-start forecast was regularly off by a quarter in either direction. MEDDICC deal reviews and a fixed Monday forecast call brought that to within about 10%. Last year I opened the UAE and Saudi mid-market segment with one account executive; it closed ₹3.1 crore of new ARR in its first year and taught me what changes across borders: longer legal reviews, different buying committees and the need for local references.
I’d like to do this at your company because your product already wins in logistics, a segment I have sold into for six years, and the Gulf expansion you announced this year is the kind of build-out I enjoy. I’d welcome a conversation about the targets for this role and how you measure the team today.
Thank you for reading. My resume, with year-by-year attainment, is attached.
Regards, Arjun Malhotra
Adapt it to your own application
- Pick the two requirements in the job ad you can prove best, for example forecasting and new-market growth, and give each one paragraph with a before-and-after number.
- Copy the quota figures from your resume exactly. Recruiters compare the two documents, and sales leaders check numbers with references.
- Field or channel sales (FMCG, pharma, telecom): replace ARR and win rate with secondary sales growth, distributor additions and collection targets.
- Never managed before? Lead with your own attainment and any onboarding or mentoring of new reps, and say you want to lead a team.
- Keep it under 350 words. One page with white space reads better than a dense block.
- Find a real reason for the company in its press releases, product pages or customer list. If you cannot find one, say what drew you to the role instead of inventing praise.
Mistakes hiring managers notice
- Percentages without a base. "150% of quota" means little without the quota size, the period or your rank.
- Team results written as personal ones. Say "my team" when it was the team.
- Repeating the resume line by line. The letter should explain how, the resume shows what.
- Confidential figures from your current employer. Percentage of quota and rank are usually safe; total company revenue usually is not.
