Real estate agent resume template
Short answer
Olivia suits real estate agents, who are marketing themselves as much as homes: a blue header band holds your name and licence, and labelled skill rows sit above your sales record. The fictional sample is a Sacramento agent four years into the job after working as an escrow assistant, with 31 closed sides last year, a list-to-sale ratio above 100%, written buyer agreements and most business from referrals.

Why Olivia suits a real estate agent resume
Olivia's full-width blue band puts your name, phone and licence in white across the top, which is the boldest first impression of the seven and suits a job where clients pick the agent before the house. Labelled skill rows for pricing, negotiation and the CRM come before the sales history.
Second choice: Daniel. Daniel's rounded grey heading pills give a softer look, a better fit for agents applying to a team or brokerage operations role.
What goes in each section, in Olivia's order
Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. State your licence, market and niche in two lines: the neighbourhoods, buyer or listing side, price band and any specialty (first-time buyers, new construction, relocation). A brokerage hiring a listing agent wants to see listings, not a general "passionate about homes".
- Skills. Technical holds the work clients pay for: comparative market analysis, pricing, negotiation, transaction coordination, listing marketing. Tools holds the MLS, the CRM, e-signature and showing software. Languages get their own row, since many agents win clients through them.
- Work Experience. Give closed transactions (sides) and volume for each year that matters, then quality measures: list-to-sale price ratio, days on market against the area, share of business from referrals and repeat clients. One bullet on a hard deal you saved shows more than any adjective.
- Education. A degree is not required, so keep it to one line. Pre-licence courses belong with the licence, not here, unless a degree in real estate or finance adds something.
- Certifications. Write the licence with the state agency and year. Olivia prints certifications near the end, so the sample also puts the licence in the headline, where a broker sees it first.

How to make the sample yours
Show the licence route if you are new
California's Department of Real Estate requires three college-level courses (Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice and one elective) before the salesperson exam, and licensees work under a responsible broker. New agents can list the courses and the exam date while the licence is pending.
Mention buyer agreements
Since 17 August 2024, NAR's practice changes ask agents working with buyers to sign a written agreement before touring a home, with compensation clearly defined rather than open-ended. A bullet showing you explain these agreements well tells a broker you handle the new rules with confidence.
Count sides, not just volume
Sales volume rises with prices; sides closed show your workload. Give both, and split buyer and listing sides if you lean one way.
Changing careers into real estate
Teachers, nurses, hospitality and mortgage staff bring networks and service habits. Lead with your licence and first deals, then keep one or two earlier-career bullets that show negotiation, follow-up or local connections.
Joining a team or brokerage staff
For a team lead, transaction coordinator or brokerage operations role, swap personal production for leads handled, files closed on time and agents supported.

Frequently asked questions
What should a new real estate agent put on a resume?
Your licence and date, the brokerage, any transactions so far (even one), and earlier jobs that show sales, service or local connections. Add open houses held and leads converted if you have no closings yet.
Should I list sales volume or number of transactions?
Both if you can. Volume shows the price range you work in; sides show how many clients you served. Give the year for each figure.
Do I need a resume if clients find me online?
Yes, for joining a team, moving brokerages or applying for salaried roles such as new home sales, leasing or relocation. Brokers still ask for production history on paper.
How do I show I can work with the 2024 buyer agreement changes?
A plain bullet such as "explain written buyer agreements and compensation before first tours" is enough. It shows you know the rule and can talk clients through it.
Should I include part-time real estate work?
Yes, as its own entry with the dates and your production. Many agents start part-time; what counts is sides closed and client results.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
